Hey, it won’t be a standard rematch after all!
Having defeated Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 37, Braun Strowman positioned himself as a fresh contender to the WWE championship Bobby Lashley was still holding coming out of that show. So did Randy Orton, however, when he beat Bray Wyatt, and Drew McIntyre was just sort of decided to be in the mix, what with a rematch still being such an easy storyline. So they booked a triple threat between them and McIntyre emerged victorious by pinning Orton.
He was granted a title shot at Lashley at the upcoming WrestleMania Backlash event on May 16, 2021, in Tampa, Florida, for it.
Strowman still had a case, seeing as he wasn’t pinned in that match, and he actually maneuvered himself nicely to get himself added to the match. He helped McIntyre stave off T-Bar and Mace before they inevitably clashed and a singles match was set up. Strowman demanded he be added to the title match at the upcoming pay-per-view if he emerged victorious and that wish was granted.
MVP and Lashley tried to stop this, of course, but T-Bar and Mace, who we still aren’t sure are affiliated with The Hurt Business, ended up inadvertently assisting Strowman with a distraction of their own, and a Running Powerslam was enough to score a pinfall victory.
There you have it.
The updated math card:
- Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman (WWE championship)
- Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley (SmackDown women’s championship)
