People really need to stop asking Dave Bautista whether he’s coming back to pro wrestling.
The Army of the Dead star - the trailer for which look dope af, btw...
... just addressed this last month when AEW was hyping Christian Cage’s signing. Now he’s fielding questions again while promoting Zack Snyder’s latest. This one came up while he was being interviewed for Snyder’s charity convention, Justice Con. When host Enosh Fee joked we’d be seeing Batista Bombs in the future, Dave was quick to shoot it down:
“Don’t put that out there, people will jump all over that [laughs]. ‘He’s coming out of retirement!’ No, I’m not...
“It’s so hard to convince people that I’m actually retired. You have no idea how tough that discussion is. When a professional wrestler retires, they don’t really retire, they kind of retire. If the paycheck or event is big enough, they’ll come out of retirement. It’s just not that way with me. I exited the business in such a storybook way, I could never go back. I’m just done. I got to finish on my own terms and nothing is going to bring me back and take away from that.”
While I enjoyed his WrestleMania 35 No Hold Barred clash with Triple H, it might not be the storybook ending I’d write for The Animal’s career. But if the man himself is happy with it, that’s good enough for me.
Especially as he continues to mix playing a lead in cool action movies with smaller character roles in a variety of interesting projects, and knocking them all out of the park. I mean, later in his Justice Con panel, he was dreamcasting himself in DC Comics’ movies saying, “I wanna play Bane so bad,” and “I’d really be interested in what somebody can do with Lobo. I’d be all over that.”
Sign me up. And stop asking Dave about a wrestling return.
