WWE Raw results, live blog (April 19, 2021): Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair

WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (April 19, 2021) from the ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, featuring all the latest build to the upcoming WrestleMania Backlash event scheduled for next month at the same venue.

Advertised for tonight: Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka in a main event that will likely determine the next challenger for the Raw women’s championship, Braun Strowman vs. Randy Orton in a match being promoted as their first ever meeting in a singles match, Drew McIntyre wants answers from T-BAR and MACE on their attack last week, and more!

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the Raw live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

Tell me a story, will you? Will you? A real good story, I won’t leave ‘til you spill your guts, old man, I’ll liveblog this entire pro wrestling show if I have to.

The show opens with Drew McIntyre making his entrance.

He gets on the mic and says you can work hard to make opportunities, but sometimes opportunity falls into your lap, as it did for him last week when he was arguing with Montel Vontavious Porter. He says that triggered some folks backstage, because everybody’s triggered these days (which is a real crappy way to phrase your thought Drew, be better) and that lead to him winning a three-way #1 contender’s match.

Which brings him to Mace and T-BAR attacking him after he won. He knows the mastermind is MVP, and he doesn’t know why they’re aligned, if they’re gonna start dressing like the Hurt Business or maybe Montel will dress like them, but all he knows is when he gets his hands on those big bastards, he’ll get some retribution.

He’s fired up and he wants a fight—

Enter MVP.

He talks about how he decided to downsize the Hurt Business by kicking Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin out, so why would he bother recruiting two more guys after Bobby Lashley proved he can beat him all by his lonesome. Porter points out that McIntyre has made a lot of enemies lately and maybe this is just his chickens coming home to roost.

Drew scoffs at the idea but says maybe they can talk it out, when Mace and T-BAR blindside him! They drag McIntyre in the ring for a beating and hit the double chokeslam!

Mace and T-BAR are interviewed in Gorilla.

They name a variety of animals before settling on sabretooth tiger and saying they’re gonna make Drew extinct.

We cut back to McIntyre fuming in the ring as we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because Raw is three hours long.

An angry Drew McIntyre hunts five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and demands a handicap match against Mace and T-BAR, saying his first instinct was to go get a baseball bat and take care of the problem himself. Pearce tries to get him to go find a tag partner but Drew won’t have it, and tells him to make the match before he takes matters into his own hands.

Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin vs. Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)

Erik and Benjamin to start, collar and elbow into the corner, trading punches, Alexander tags in and they work over the viking in the corner. A big right hand opens the path for the tag to Ivar, slam, clear the apron, Cedric rolls away from a freight train crossbody and Shelton tags in! Big knee for two, trading forearms, and now it’s Warbeard’s turn to be worked over.

Big Banzai Drop gets him some separation, reaching for the tag and Shelton grabs an ankle lock to block him! Ivar rolls him through, rolls under, tag to Erik! Whip reversed, Death Valley Driver from Benjamin, only a nearfall! Tag to Alexander, big corner forearm, step-up tornado DDT... WARBEARD BREAKS IT UP! Shelton runs him off but gets whipped hard into the barricade and then crossbodied for his trouble!

Cedric goes for the Neuralyzer, reversed, he slips out, judo throw into a knee strike from the viking and a tag! Ivar passes him over...

Viking Raiders win by pinfall with the Viking Experience on Cedric Alexander.

Randy Orton is interviewed backstage.

He says the Fiend will never be seen or heard from in WWE as long as he’s still around, and nobody could have done what he did at WrestleMania. He talks about Drew McIntyre and says he’s coming for the WWE Championship, at which point Matt Riddle scoots on up.

He babbles nonsense at Orton, Orton wanders off in annoyance, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Randy Orton rolls up on five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce.

He says he’s sick of the disrespect and he wants the blonde dork who just accosted him, whoever he may be, in the ring, tonight.

We get a recap of Charlotte Flair cutting a promo on Rhea Ripley last week.

Charlotte Flair makes her entrance to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Charlotte Flair gets on the mic.

She says she came to Raw last week to demand respect, and aafter everything she’s given this industry, she was just expressing how she felt. She came back unapologetically her, the biggest star in the division, and if any of the rats in the women’s locker room don’t want to believe that, everybody was talking about her even though she didn’t have a match at WrestleMania.

And in any case they dislike each other as much as they do her and they’re all fake. She had an actual WrestleMania match taken from her, and Rhia Ripley beat Asuka? Big deal, she can beat both of them in the same night, and that’s why they call her the Opportunity. Tonight she’s gonna remind Asuka just how much she doesn’t like her and remind everyone that she’s the Queen.

Enter Asuka.

Before she can say anything, Rhea Ripley also makes her entrance.

Rhea says that Asuka’s gonna win tonight and Flair is tickled. She stops Asuka from talking and SPEAKS VERY LOUD AND SLOW to remind her that she beat her at WrestleMania. They keep going back and forth, Asuka concludes by telling her that she’s gonna beat her tonight, bitch.

We see Randy Orton walking backstage as Matt Riddle scoots by, to send us to break.

Back from commercial we get another recap of our opening segment and are informed that the handicap match that Drew McIntyre wanted has been booked.

Matt Riddle vs. Randy Orton

Waistlock into the corner, Riddle breaks clean, Orton gets him in the ropes, knee lift, suplex, float over, Matt gets a sleeper hold! Randy breaks free with a handful of hair, go-behind, back to the sleeper hold! Orton breaks it again, Riddle gets it back, Randy starts to fade but powers up and counters with a senton! Riddle goes right back to the sleeper!

Orton rolls out under the ropes to break, catches a Penalty Kick into a back heel trip and then hits the back suplex into the announce desk to send us to break!

Back from commercial, Orton in control with the Garvin Stomp, repeatedly targeting his bare ankle! Raking the bootlaces across his face, choking him in the ropes, off the ropes, snap scoop powerslam... NOPE! Big suplex, uppercuts, smashing Riddle’s face into the turnbuckles! A punch fires Matt up, chops and slaps but Randy thumbs him in the eye to cut him off!

Chops in the corner from the Viper, reverse chinlock applied, Riddle breaks away, charge, sidestep, Orton goes shoulder-first into the post! Bro with a boot, Pele Kick, kip-up, corner forearms, block the exploder suplex, a punch staggers Riddle but he drops Orton with a sweep and a senton for two! Matt goes up top, Randy cuts him off, superplex connects!

Randy goes for a lariat, Riddle counters with a hanging triangle choke in the ropes! Orton fires back with the hanging DDT after the break, but Matt thinks fast...

Matt Riddle wins by pinfall with a crucifix pin.

Backstage, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is on the phone when Sheamus rolls up.

He asks why he called him here and Adam says he just wanted to congratulate him on winning the United States Championship at WrestleMania. Sheamus doesn’t think he invited him just to stroke his ego, and Pearce says he’s gonna be a great champion but he wants him to think about the legacy of the title and the open challenges that the likes of John Cena have offered.

The Celtic Warrior says he doesn’t care about the past, but he’ll do it.

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler make their entrance to send us to break.

Lana & Naomi vs. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Naomi and Jax to start, kicks stagger Nia and Lana tags in, Russian legsweep blocked. Tag back to Naomi, crossbody connects, quick tags, landing shots, leg drop for two! Tag from Baszler, starting to work Lana over, bicep stomp connects and the Ravishing Russian is in agony!

Enter Sexy Muscle Friends, mics in hand.

They hate to interrupt but they have something they want Nia Jax to see. It’s footage of them attacking Nia last week after she and Baszler had a good laugh about Mandy Rose tripping at WrestleMania. Jax is pissed and storms off the apron, Sexy Muscle Friends run away, she chases them to the back Naomi tags in...

Lana & Naomi win by pinfall with a stereo X-Factor on Shayna Baszler.

We get a video of Bad Bunny and Damian Priest being interviewed in Spanish about their experience teaming together.

Priest puts him over as a hard worker who did a great job, and Bunny says it’s something he’ll always remember.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Miz and Maryse make their entrance.

Miz does his usual intro spiel but says this isn’t a normal MizTV, because his guest tonight is his wife, Maryse. He talks up the last week or so, with him and John Morrison beating Damian Priest and a smashing success of a season premiere of Miz & Mrs. Maryse puts him over as a great husband, father, and WWE Superstar.

They get all lovey-dovey and kiss as pyro goes off. Maryse pours champagne and Miz says this week is gonna be even better than last week, because they’re celebrating, and then on Sunday WWE 24: The Miz premieres. He proposes a toast—

Enter Damian Priest.

He says Miz is as delusional as Jake Paul thinking he’s a real fighter and rolls a clip of the finish last week, with Maryse running interference and the A-Lister putting his feet on the ropes. He says Miz has no balls (in Spanish), Maryse fires back (in French) and offers him a match with Miz tonight. Priest says that’s cool and drinks some champagne, choking on it and calling it trash.

Miz throws the rest of his glass in Priest’s face and he and his wife run off.

New Day are walking backstage when they run into Matt Riddle and congratulate him on beating Randy Orton earlier tonight. Riddle notices Xavier Woods’ instrument case and pitches him on all kinds of mysterious things he could put in there.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Elias is in the ring to play us a song.

He’s interrupted by Xavier Woods playing bass!

Elias vs. Kofi Kingston

Elias with a big knee out the gates, twisting suplex, no good! Kingston comes back briefly but the Drifter Hot Shots him! Delayed vertical suplex follows, exploder suplex, still just two! London Dungeon applied, Kofi escapes, trading strikes, sunset flip roll-through, float over, SOS connects... NOPE! Elias up top, Kingston cuts him off, avalanche Frankensteiner blocked!

The Drifter perches...

Elias wins by pinfall with the diving elbow drop.

We see Alexa Bliss swinging backstage to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Alexa Bliss tells stories about her childhood and her creepy doll, Lilly.

She says a mean girl didn’t want to give her a bite of her ice cream cone, so she shoved “that little bitch” off the swing and broke her arm. When the teachers asked why, she told the truth, Lilly make her do it. They thought she was bonkers, but if Lilly doesn’t like something, she’ll let you know. So all the little girls on the Raw roster need to know that Lilly didn’t like Him and she doesn’t like any of them.

We get a recap of our women’s tag match from earlier tonight.

Sexy Muscle Friends are interviewed backstage.

They say they’re not the bullies, Nia and Shayna are, and they run off as Jax and Baszler roll up. Shayna berates her partner for their loss and blames her for being distracted, telling her she had better start paying attention, or else.

Angel Garza rolls up to mack on Nia.

Drew McIntyre makes his entrance to send us to break

Drew McIntyre vs. Mace & T-BAR (Handicap Match)

Jockeying with T-BAR over a suplex, McIntyre gets it, cover for one. Mace tags in and works Drew over while Montel Vontavious Porter watches backstage. Double suplex, T-BAR grinding him down with a rear chinlock, Mace back in, back suplex, McIntyre refusing to stay down but running on fumes, firing off desperate right hands to recover. Spinebuster on T-BAR, jackknife pin for two! A headbutt staggers the erstwhile Dijak, McIntyre lies in wait, ducks a lariat from Mace, clubs him down, turns to face T-BAR and gets rammed into the corner! They beat Drew down in the corner, referee calls it...

Drew McIntyre wins by disqualification due to castigo de excesivo, presumably, although no finish is announced.

Braun Strowman makes the save and we go to break.

Back from commercial and we have a tag match!

Braun Strowman & Drew McIntyre vs. Mace & T-BAR

Strowman and Mace to start, pushing each other around, jockeying for position, Braun with a shoulder block and clubbing blows, McIntyre tags in and unloads on Mace in the corner! Cut off with a throat thrust, tag to T-BAR! Strowman gets the tag and gets isolated for a bit but takes T-BAR out with a huge back body drop!

Drew hot tag, big lariats, overhead belly-to-belly, jumping neckbreaker, kip-up and the Scot is fired up! He rips Mace’s mask off and clubs him in the corner until the referee has no choice but to throw this one out as well...

Mace & T-BAR win by disqualification due to castigo de excesivo, and it IS announced this time.

Post-match, Strowman rips T-BAR’s mask off as well!

Miz and Maryse are shown walking backstage.

Damian Priest vs. the Miz

Priest running roughshod on Miz early, Maryse runs interference and creates an opening for the A-Lister to boot him down! Baseball slide, back inside, diving double axehandle into mounted punches! Miz with the inverted facelock backbreaker / neckbreaker combo, chest kicks, float over, Priest off the ropes with a rolling kick! Damian fired up, again Maryse runs interference but this time Priest kicks out of the schoolboy!

Inverted facelock...

Damian Priest wins by pinfall with Hit the Lights.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Sheamus is in the ring and on the mic.

He crows about being United States Champion and says he’s gonna hold the title for a long, long time. He didn’t do it by being a nice fella or making reckless decisions, and here’s the craic— he’s going to be a fighting champion for us and issue an open challenge every week... or whenever he wants. He asks who wants a shot at the champ—

Enter Humberto Carrillo!

Sheamus puts boots to Carrillo before the bell can ring and beats him down at length on the floor! He drags him back in the ring and tells him he’s not worthy and this is as close to the title as he’s gonna get!

We go to break on a hype reel for next year’s WrestleMania.

Back from commercial, we get main event entrances, and Rhea Ripley comes out to watch from ringside.

Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair

Flair with a side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, off the ropes, jockeying for position, Asuka laying kicks in against the ropes, running hip attack dodged and Charlotte kicks her head off! Drawing her up on the apron, hangman’s neckbreaker connects! Ripley looks on and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Asuka lands the Alarm Clock, hip attack in the corner, big German suplex, sliding kick... NOPE! Flair firing off grounded elbows, Asuka ducks a boot but Charlotte hits the cravate facebreaker! Off the ropes, Asuka gets the Codebreaker and both women are down and out! Flair with a spear, kneebar in the ropes, back inside, the Empress gets the Asuka Lock but Charlotte rolls to the ropes for the break!

Back at it, chop block, spinning toehold into the figure four leglock, bridging up... RHEA RIPLEY BREAKS IT UP BUT REFEREE EDDIE ORENGO DOESN’T SEE! Asuka breaks the two of them up with a kick, takes Charlotte down...

Asuka wins by pinfall with a crucifix pin.

Post-match, Charlotte beats Orengo down, raining forearms down across the back of his head! Referee Shaun Bennett slides in to ask her to stop, joined shortly thereafter by referee Darrick Moore, but she refuses to leave and keeps beating him down!

That’s the show, folks.
