The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the WrestleMania Backlash show set to take place on Sun., May 16, 2021, at the ThunderDome inside the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. This will mark the first time the Backlash event has been rebranded with the WrestleMania name tacked on.
We’re still a full month out from showtime, so only one match is official so far:
- Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre (WWE championship)
McIntyre came up short in his quest to win the title back at WrestleMania 37 but on the episode of Monday Night Raw two evenings later, he won a triple threat match against Braun Strowman and Randy Orton to set up yet another shot at the WWE championship. It will take place at this show.
As of now, there are no other matches scheduled. Seth Rollins kept his issue with Cesaro going on Friday Night SmackDown this week and one would think they’ll have a rematch here. Considering the branding, it’s reasonable to expect a lot of rematches from WrestleMania 37.
