WWE kept its cards close to the chest in regards to any explanation for what a “Nigerian Drum Fight” is ahead of Big E and Apollo Crews engaging in one at tonight’s (Sun., April 11, 2021) WrestleMania 37 event at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. All we were told was that it must end via submission or pinfall and there would be no disqualifications.
What it amounted to was a regular match with a bunch of tables, kendo sticks, gongs, and literal drums around the outside of the ring, all of which could obviously be used to attack your opponent.
They did just that, opening up by beating the hell out of each other with kendo sticks. They took a few big bumps, like Crews taking a big one on the steel steps on the outside and going through a table later in the match. That set up the Big Ending and the apparent finish.
Then Dabba-Kato showed up.
He attacked Big E, hit a choke slam, then dragged Crews on top of him to score the pin to win the Intercontinental championship.
