WrestleMania 37 results: Belair bests Banks in historic main event

WWE was “back in business” on Night One of WrestleMania 37, and it had been a really good show heading into the main event.

The last match on the April 10 card was an anticipated, and historic, showdown. SmackDown Women’s champion Sasha Banks’ defense against Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair was the first time two Black women had been in this spot (or even in a singles match against one another) at WrestleMania.

Emotions caught up to both women...

... but they pushed past them, and got down to doing what they came to do. For Belair, that meant showing why they call her The EST.

The Boss weathered that early storm and got in some big shots of her own, but after a couple misfires on the outside, Bianca had an even more remarkable show of strength for us. She help Banks in a delayed vertical suplex, and even bounced her off the ropes a few times before slamming her to the mat.

A Standing Shooting Star Press followed, and Belair went for a 450 splash, but...

That was the opening the champ needed. Sasha pressed her advantage...

... and finally locked in a Banks Statement using Belair’s braid for leverage. The challenger got to the ropes, and after two missed moves left Sasha with a gimpy knee, Bianca connected with the 450. But The Boss kicked out!

It was only a momentary set back. Banks used The EST’s braid again to save herself from a KOD, but it came back to bite her when Bianca brought back the hair whip. That led to a successful KOD, and a star is born.

A great end to a great night.
