The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (Mar. 31) NXT and AEW television shows.
Per Showbuzz Daily, Dynamite netted 700,000 viewers for a 0.26 rating point in the 18-49 demographic. NXT checked in with 654,000 viewers for a 0.21 rating point in the same 18-49 demo.
For AEW, this is a decrease of about 57,000 viewers from the prior week, with a drop from last week’s 0.30 demo rating. For NXT, this is a decrease of about 24,000 viewers from the prior week, but the demo rating spiked up from last week’s 0.14.
AEW moved down from 6th to 7th place in the demo rating for the night, while NXT jumped up from 29th to 12th place.
This was AEW’s worst showing in total viewership and the demo rating since the first episode of 2021, on Jan. 6. You can go further back and even say that this was AEW’s second worst demo rating since the beginning of July 2020. AEW is struggling to find a way to grow its audience right now, relative to their past results.
NXT’s total viewership actually dropped from last week, but they saw a huge increase in their demo rating. That’s a tradeoff they’ll gladly take. This is tied for NXT’s best demo rating since the beginning of November 2020.
NXT’s numbers in both areas fall within a reasonable distance of AEW. Next week is the final night of the Wednesday night war, with NXT presenting night one of their TakeOver: Stand & Deliver special. That means it’s possible to squint and see a scenario where NXT actually ends the Wednesday night war with a ratings win. It’s not the most likely outcome, but after months of a ratings win looking impossible for NXT, there’s finally a non-zero chance that they can prevail over those AEW bullies. That’d be a pretty crazy way to end this thing, right?
