WrestleMania 37 is a two night event that is coming up on Sat. Apr 10 and Sun. Apr. 11 on Peacock.
WWE’s television schedule that week also includes the go-home episode of SmackDown on FOX on Fri. Apr. 9. With that being the night before WrestleMania 37, WWE has announced that it will be a special WrestleMania edition of SmackDown. That means it will include the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, a four-way tag team title match, and more. Here are the details:
BREAKING NEWS:
— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) April 1, 2021
Per @ScrapDaddyAP, next week we'll see a special #WrestleMania edition of SmackDown on FOX with the 'Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal', a Fatal 4-Way for the SmackDown Tag Titles, and we'll hear from @WWERomanReigns, @EdgeRatedR, & @WWEDanielBryan! pic.twitter.com/yYWM556N5E
The four teams involved in the SmackDown tag team title match are not revealed here, but for now it’s safe to assume that the champs (Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler) will be joined by The Mysterios, the Street Profits, and Alpha Academy.
The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal includes the following 22 participants:
- Akira Tozawa
- Angel Garza
- Cedric Alexander
- Drew Gulak
- Elias
- Erik
- Gran Metalik
- Humberto Carrillo
- Jaxson Ryker
- Jey Uso
- Kalisto
- King Corbin
- Lince Dorado
- MACE
- Murphy
- Mustafa Ali
- Ricochet
- Shelton Benjamin
- Shinsuke Namakura
- SLAPJACK
- T-BAR
- Tucker
The field mostly consists of jobbers like RETRIBUTION, Ricochet, Tucker, Lucha House Party, etc. The three names that stick out from the pack are Jey Uso, Shinsuke Nakamura, and King Corbin, so there’s a decent chance that one of them will win it.
In effect, next week’s (Apr. 9) episode of SmackDown on FOX will serve as a kickoff show for the two official nights of WrestleMania that will follow on Apr. 10 & Apr. 11.
