Well, this was unexpected.
After failing to win a match for the women’s tag team titles at Elimination Chamber 2021, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair will give it one more try as a team at Fastlane 2021. WWE announced that Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will defend the titles against Banks and Belair on the Mar. 21 event. This is the only match booked for the Fastlane card as of this writing.
I don’t have a good feel for what the booking direction is here. It would be awfully strange to book the Royal Rumble winner and the champion she is challenging to lose on consecutive pay-per-view events leading into their big singles showdown at WrestleMania 37. But if Sasha and Bianca were going to win tag team gold, the timing would have made more sense last month at Elimination Chamber. Fastlane is only three weeks before WrestleMania. There’s also the fact that Naomi and Lana have been owed a tag team title shot since well before last month’s Elimination Chamber card, and it’s not clear how Banks and Belair cut in front of them once again.
As part of this announcement, WWE also revealed that Baszler and Belair will have a singles match on tomorrow night’s (Mar. 5) episode of SmackDown.
Do you think Belair and Banks will walk out as the new tag champs at Fastlane?
