Rumors suggested the Riddle vs. Sheamus non-title match on Monday Night Raw this week would act as a setup for a United States championship match at WrestleMania 37. Sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.
Sheamus pinned Riddle to score a clean victory, making him the clear number one contender. It’s standard procedure for WWE to book this way — win a non-title match to earn another match with the title on the line.
The match will take place on night two, April 11, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
Here’s the updated match card:
Night one
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre (WWE championship)
Sasha Banks (c) vs. Bianca Belair (SmackDown women’s championship)
The New Day (c) vs. AJ Styles & Omos (Raw tag team championship)
