We didn’t know what the status of the Braun Strowman vs. Shane McMahon match was coming into tonight’s (Sun., Mar. 21, 2021) Fastlane pay-per-view (PPV) on Peacock. They were booked for it after Monday Night Raw this week and then all advertising was removed with nary a word from WWE on the status of the match itself.
As it turns out, the match didn’t happen and it was clearly never going to. Instead of simply calling it off, however, they ran an angle at the ThunderDome this evening that saw McMahon allegedly hurt his knee while warming up and ultimately using Elias, who was campaigning for a spot on the WrestleMania 37 card to perform in front of the audience at Raymond James Stadium, to step in for him.
The match that ensued was hardly a match at all. Strowman just beat the ever loving trash out of Elias, even with Jaxson Ryker ringside and seemingly perfectly capable of interfering. He just outright chose not to.
I guess the idea is he knew better.
