WWE FASTLANE LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

We’re throwing all caution to the wind, it’s better to think about what’s ahead than behind them. Only I have got a better chance at failure, but my mind has a clever way of turning all the worst to right, I’ve found, so I’m just gonna liveblog this here pro wrestling show for y’all, folks.

The pre-show opens with Kayla Braxton welcoming us and introducing her panel, tonight consisting of Booker T, Jerry “the King” Lawler, and Peter Rosenberg. As they go through the matches with the usual preview content, we’re informed that Shane McMahon hurt his leg training and is currently being evaluated to see if he can wrestle his match tonight.

Matt Riddle (c) vs. Mustafa Ali (WWE United States Championship)

Ali immediately bails to the floor and takes his time getting back inside, Riddle grabs a cravate but a handful of hair forces him into the corner for the break. Big double leg, knees to the ribs, Karelin lift sets him up for the high jump senton... NOPE! Another senton attempt, Mustafa with the feet up to block! He calls to Retribution at ringside to make sure they’re watching and stalks after Matt.

Putting him into the corner, pulling him to the apron, right hand and he posts his neck before dropkicking him to the floor! Back inside, bodyscissors applied, keeping the pressure on Riddle’s neck and putting him into the turnbuckles chest first, cover for two. Trading chops in the corner, whip reversed, evasion to the apron to dodge the forerarm, rolling thunder lungblower... NOT ENOUGH!

Snapmare gets Mustafa back to the bodyscissors, Riddle escapes, Ali floats over, off the ropes... NECKBREAKER COUNTERED INTO A SLEEPER HOLD! MUSTAFA COUNTERS WITH A PIN! Clobbering blows exchanged, Pele kick connects, corner charging forearms, overhead exploder and into the Penalty Kick! Powerbomb connects, roll through into the knee strike... STILL NO!

Matt goes up top, corkscrew moonsault but Ali gets the knees up! Mustafa up to for the tornado DDT, reversed, fisherman buster reversed but Riddle rolls through and hits it... ALI KICKS OUT AND LOCKS THE KOJI CLUTCH RIGHT ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING! MATT DESPERATE, CRAWLING, REACHING FOR THE ROPES, HE POSTS TO HIS FEET FOR A SHORT POWERBOMB TO FORCE THE ESCAPE!

Boot up in the corner, Riddle up top, Ali crotches him! Big right hand dodged, reverse into a hanging sleeper hold, referee Darrick Moore calls the break, Matt drags Mustafa up top...

Matt Riddle wins by pinfall with an avalanche fall-forward Tombstone Piledriver to retain the WWE United States Championship.

Post-match, Ali berates Reckoning for being out of line and she walks off. SLAPJACK walks off next and Mustafa berates T-BAR, telling him this is all his fault. Mace has had enough, they goozle him... DOUBLE CHOKESLAM TO ALI!

We get a PSA promoting COVID vaccines next— I got my first shot on Friday, and I hope y’all are getting yours as soon as possible too.

The pre-show carries on doing pre-show business until it’s time for the show proper to begin.

The main show kicks off with a video package setting tonight’s show up, as usual.

Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (c) (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship)

Baszler and Banks to start, Sasha in with right hands, putting her in the corner, quick tag to Belair. Putting boots to her together, shoulder thrust, more quick tags as they work Shayna over at length. Bianca at one point counters a triangle choke attempt with a badass deadlift but that gives Baszler the opportunity to retain the momentum and go to work on her arm.

But before she can do any real damage, Jax tags in and Belair gets her in the corner and makes the tag. Float over a Samoan drop, tilt-a-whirl armbar attempt, off the ropes, shoulder block for two! Tag to Jax, headbutt to the ribs, choking her in the ropes, off the ropes, elbow drop... NOPE! Quick tags, working Bianca over, she makes some space eventually, up and over puts Nia into the turnbuckles, tags made!

The Boss in hot with a wicked knee to Baszler, corner knees for both tag champs, springboard caught but she manages to vault over Nia for a tornado DDT on Shayna that sends Jax to the floor and nearly ends it! Tag to Bianca, off the top, 450 splash connects but Reginald runs interference and referee Shaun Bennett doesn’t count the pin! Running Reggie off, Belair gets caught in the Kirifuda Clutch but makes the tag!

Glam Slam Alarm Clock, Bank Statement crossface applied but Nia shoves Bianca into the submission and breaks it up! A furious and confused Banks yells at Belair and piefaces her into the corner! Baszler from behind...

Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler win by pinfall with a schoolboy pin from Baszler on Sasha Banks to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Post-match, Belair and Banks bicker more, Sasha slaps her and calls her a rookie and walks out, title held high.

We go backstage where Shane McMahon is hobbling out of a trainer’s room on one crutch and with ice taped to his knee.

He runs into Elias and Jaxson Ryker, and Elias pitches him on performing at WrestleMania and claims it’ll be epic. Shane tells him now isn’t a good time but the Drifter refuses to take the hint. McMahon relents and says he has an idea and we cut away.

Apollo Crews vs. Big E (c) (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Trading punches out the gates, E puts him on the apron... SUICIDE SPEAR SENDS CREWS SPIRALING TO THE MAT! Stepping on Big’s neck to choke him, drawing him up, spinning spinebuster connects! Up top, frog splash... NOPE! Waistlock, grinding the life out of E, enzuigiri follows, standing moonsault... E GETS THE KNEES UP!

Post-match, Crews attacks E and lays him out with an Olympic Slam! Another Olympic Slam, he tells Big that it’s not over and draws him back up to slap him in the face and hit a third Olympic Slam!

We get an Old Spice ad where Drew Gulak takes a free sample and Akira Tozawa comes along with the ninja ref in tow looking for R-Truth. Truth tries to give him a sample, he grabs the arm, the Old Spice rep falls on him...

Joseph Average wins the 24/7 Championship by pinfall.

R-Truth recovers...

R-Truth wins the 24/7 Championship by pinfall.

Akira tears Average’s shirt open and freaks out about the Night Panther shirt he’s wearing underneath.

We get footage of Shane McMahon’s training injury from earlier.

Shane is in the ring with Elias and Jaxson Ryker as the Drifter is ready to play us a song.

McMahon wants everybody to hear exactly what he can do before WrestleMania, and Elias starts playing a song only for Shane to interrupt and apologize for interrupting to tell him that actually he’s taking his place against Braun Strowman tonight.

Braun Strowman vs. Elias

Elias ducking and dodging, Ryker tries to run interference but Strowman puts the Drifter into the corner and clubs the hell out of him. Back inside, kicks keep Rollins off balance, Seth gets him to the floor and dives a knee on him to even the odds! Smashing Shinsuke’s face into the announce desk, back inside with knees to the midsection, fireman’s carry gutbuster... NOPE! Backbreaker follows it up, another nearfall!

Waistlock, trying to grind the King of Strong Style down, my feed goes down for a moment and it comes back up with another nearfall. Rollins walks around, talking how he’s a real tough boy, looking for the Giant Swing but Nakamura reverses into a cross armbar attempt! Falling to the floor, Shinsuke sets him up for a knee lift on the apron, diving knee follows and Seth is on the outs!

Hot start, McIntyre with a series of belly-to-belly suplexes and a clothesline to send Sheamus to the floor! Belly-to-belly on the floor, more brawling, the Celtic Warrior puts Drew into the post! McIntyre whips him into the steps and stomps his hand on the steel! Back inside, kendo stick in hand, the brawl continues at length and an evil grin plays across Drew’s face as he begins to whip Sheamus with the stick!

MCINTYRE’S GRINDING THE POINT OF THE KENDO STICK INTO THE CELTIC WARRIOR’S EYE SOCKET! Smacking it across his back, sending Sheamus to the floor, he turns things around and stalks after Drew steps in hand, dorking him across the face with them! Setting him atop the announce table, fireman’s carry, McIntyre out with elbows, underhooks, knees to the jaw, he throws the Celtic Warrior off the table and into the barricade!

Fishhooks tearing at Sheamus’ face, they brawl out into the crowd area and Drew drops him throat-first across a barricade! Big slam on the floor, more brawling, punches after punches, Sheamus hits the Finlay Roll! Dragging McIntyre along, he fights back with punches... HE THROWS SHEAMUS THROUGH SOME OF THE THUNDERDOME LED BOARDS, ELECTRONICS SPARKING AND SMOKING!

Disdainful punches, McIntyre recovers and throws his own right back... FUTURE SHOCK INTO THE DESK WALL! OFF THE ROPES...

Drew McIntyre wins by pinfall with the Claymore.

Alexa Bliss vs. Randy Orton

Orton starts puking the black fluid during his entrance while he’s posing in the turnbuckles. He rolls out of the ring and demands a towel to wipe his face as he continues to gag and heave. He demands Bliss stop the games and come to the ring and she obliges, bathing the ring in pink light as she does.

We get a bell, and Alexa starts out with a fireball! Orton backs off, charges in, Bliss sidesteps and he goes hard into the post! To the floor, Alexa skips off and beckons Randy to follow her. They stop and stare and a lighting rig falls right in front of Orton’s feet! Bliss waves it off and giggles and asks Randy to follow her as she goes back in the ring.

He cautiously obliges and she blows a kiss as he enters... AND FOLLOWS IT WITH ANOTHER FIREBALL! She celebrates, commentary suggests Orton blocked it even though that doesn’t exactly read, and he rises back to his full height. A burnt arm reaches out through the mat and grabs his foot! Randy stumbles away and a jet of flame pours out of the ring, giving way to the Fiend!

Burnt and scarred, he steps out of the hole in the mat and squares up with Orton! Bliss with a diving shove, Wyatt hits Sister Abigail...
