Murphy doesn’t sound too happy with WWE right now

Murphy received a lot of WWE television time last year while playing an integral role in the storyline between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio. Murphy started out as a despicable disciple who helped The Messiah extract Rey Mysterio’s eyeball, but by the end of the year he won over the Mysterio family and even defeated Seth Rollins in a singles match on SmackDown.

His fortunes changed in a blink, and Murphy was suddenly off television. His last match took place on Dec. 4, 2020, just two weeks after he defeated Rollins. What the heck was going on here? The rumor mill suggests that WWE simply didn’t know where to go next with his storyline, while also mentioning that it might be related to Steve Cutler’s release. So much for Murphy’s controversial kayfabe romance with Aalyah Mysterio.

Murphy is still showing up to television, he’s just rarely being used. He was right there silently standing ringside for the return of Seth Rollins a couple weeks ago, almost as if there was no history between the two men.

That leads me to a couple of recent tweets from Murphy, which suggest that he’s frustrated with the way things are going in WWE right now. First there is this one from last weekend, where Murphy implies that he needs to find his passion for pro wrestling again:

Then there is this tweet about the opportunity cost of booking the oldest Elimination Chamber match in history:

In the latter tweet, he specifically cites wrestlers who deserve a bigger spotlight in WWE, such as Aleister Black, Ricochet, Angel Garza, Chad Gable, and Mustafa Ali.

Maybe I’m reading too much into a couple of tweets, but it’s hard not to considering how quickly WWE creative forgot that Murphy exists.
