NXT books one title match, casts doubt on another

New, 12 comments

After Io Shirai did battle with the newly signed Zoey Stark on the Feb. 24 edition of NXT, Toni Storm came to the stage to challenge the NXT Women’s champion. Storm used her attack on Shirai backstage last week, and the fact she wasn’t the one pinned when Io retained the belt in their TakeOver: Vengeance Day Triple Threat with Mercedes Martinez, to incentivize the champ to accept.

Fighting champ Io didn’t really need much in the way of incentives, though. The match is official for the Mar. 10 episode. We know because Burger King told us so!

Meanwhile, we’re still getting Women’s Dusty Cup winners Raquel González & Dakota Kai challenging WWE Women’s Tag Team champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax for their titles on NXT next Weds., Mar. 3.

We were also supposed to get Men’s Dusty Cup winners MSK against NXT Tag champs Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. And maybe we still will. But if we do, the challengers’ Wes Lee will be wrestling with a “broken hand”. Dusty Cup runners up Grizzled Young Veterans did the damage when they jumped Lee & Nash Carter backstage tonight.

GYV’s Zack Gibson & James Drake would announce they’d been fined for their actions, but they had no updates on Lee’s status for next week.

Stay tuned.
