WWE SmackDown results, live blog (Feb. 19, 2021): Elimination Chamber go home

New, comments

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Feb. 19, 2021) with a show from the ThunderDome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. This episode will feature all the latest build to the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV) this Sunday (Feb. 21) at the very same venue.

Tonight’s main event is a six man tag team match pitting Cesaro, Daniel Bryan, and Kevin Owens vs. Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and King Corbin. These six men also happen to be the competitors who will do battle inside the Elimination Chamber on Sunday. As of now, this six man tag team match doesn’t have any stakes aside from momentum, for whatever that’s worth.

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on FOX. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

The march of serrated utterance like a soft cough, muffled murmur sneaking through the lecture hall. The crawl across the island, the sound of waves; embodied water sprouting legs as loud as gallop, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with Edge making his entrance.

He gets in the ring and talks about the various title scenes and that he feels that Roman Reigns is making the smart play at Elimination Chamber by not getting in the chamber. He talks about how he’s going to choose who he faces at WrestleMania—

Enter Roman Reigns, flanked by Paul Heyman and Jey Uso as per usual.

Roman takes his sweet time and gets on the mic at last, saying Edge doesn’t have thirteen men to choose from, because there’s only one, and that’s him. Edge says he can’t acknowledge Reigns as the main event of WrestleMania because he lost his cool a couple weeks ago and that tells him that Roman knows he needs him to be the main event of WrestleMania.

Whoever he chooses, that’s the main event, and he looks in Roman’s eyes and sees that he’s insecure. Don’t get him wrong, he’ll acknowledge that Reigns is in his prime and firing on every cylinder, a generational talent with an empty highway ahead of him, and he respects him, but he can see that he’s starting to crack under the pressure.

Enter Sami Zayn.

He complains about being disrespected by management and by Edge and Roman and says they should be worried about him because he’s a master strategist and the champion of the people. He points at the WrestleMania sign and makes his camera crew document it... JEY USO SUPERKICKS ZAYN OUT OF THE RING!

Roman hands his title to Heyman and puts his hands behind his back as he squares up to Edge and whispers something in his ear before leaving the ring.

Commentary hypes up tonight’s show.

Big E makes his entrance to send us to break.

Back from commercial, Big E is eating a TV dinner on a couch next to the commentary station.

Backstage, Apollo Crews is interviewed.

He says he’s always respected Big E and got great advice from him, like how you have to make opportunities for yourself. The truth is, E never respected him and never got to know the real him. His ancestors are Nigerian royalty and if Big had spoken to them like he speaks to Apollo, he’d have lost his tongue, and now Crews is coming for what he deserves.

Apollo Crews vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Off the ropes, Nakamura catches him with a knee, knee drop follows, cover for two. Dropkick from Crews, another one, baseball slide sends Shinsuke into E’s snack tray at ringside! They brawl and Apollo throws the King of Strong Style into Big E! E tells Crews to keep testing him and see what happens, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Crews is in control. Whip across, Nakamura ducks a lariat and hits a jump kick! More kicks ensue, whip to the corner, catch Apollo in the ropes, sliding German suplex... NOPE! Crews with an enzuigiri, military press, Shinsuke slips out, flying armbar, trap the leg...

Shinsuke Nakamura wins by pinfall with an arm and leg folding press.

Post-match, Apollo attacks Nakamura and dumps him to the floor! Beating him down, throwing him into the barricade, Crews grabs the steel steps and Big E gets in his face, telling him he’s done and he needs to walk away. Apollo sets the steps down and E goes to help Shinsuke up... AND CREWS BLASTS THEM WITH THE STEPS! He dumps Nakamura over the barricade and throws the steps in the ring while he waits for Big to get up!

He tells E to stay out of his business, stomps him one, and draws him up to put him in the ring. Yelling at referee Ryan Tran to stay back, Crews gets in the ring, hoists the steps up, but Tran gets between him and E and Big slips away. Apollo says he’ll put the steps down if that’s what Ryan wants... AND DROPS THEM TO THE FLOOR AND ONTO BIG E!

Medics swarm to check on him and we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw and see Big E being stretched out of the arena.

Seth Rollins makes his entrance and says what happened to Big E is a tragedy.

He says he knows a thing or two about being betrayed and runs a replay of everyone turning their back on him and walking out last week. He says that’s emotional trauma, he’s still suffering, and it’s unacceptable. He had to do something about it, so he and his lawyers have drafted a complaint. He rambles about his imaginary millions and millions of supporter before calling Cesaro a loser.

Seth continues to complain about Cesaro and bids that we embrace his vision.

Edge and Kevin Owens chat backstage.

Edge says he appreciates that Owens gets up every time he gets knocked down, much like he does. Kev draws a parallel between Edge training for his comeback and his feud with Roman Reigns. Edge wishes him luck and says he’d be glad to face him at WrestleMania.

Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are present for Big E being loaded into an ambulance, and we go to break.

Natalya & Tamina vs. Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott)

Riott and Tamina to start, Snuka hammers her and Ruby starts off staggered. Headbutt sends her into the corner, Morgan tags in and lights Tamina up with kicks only to get one caught and an elbow put into her knee! Fireman’s carry, Liv slips out, Snuka draws her up, Matrix evasion on a lariat but Tamina hosses her up! Morgan slips out, springboard, Snuka clobbers her with a right hand!

Natalya tagged in, working Liv over, slingshot back suplex reversed into a victory roll for two! Nattie with a handful of hair, Morgan tags out, stereo dropkicks lay Neidhart out! Clubbing away at her in the corner, snapmare, duck a lariat, off the ropes, tilt-a-whirl into forearms, tag from Liv! Inverted Codebreaker / STO combo... NOT ENOUGH!

Billie Kay comes skipping down the aisle in cat ears, running interference for Nattie but the schoolboy’s only good for two! Snuka tags in, blasts Morgan off the apron but she runs into a dropkick from Riott! Catching her...

Natalya & Tamina win by pinfall with a Black Hole Slam from Tamina on Ruby Riott.

Post-match, Kay tries to celebrate with Nattie and Tamina but gets laid out with a superkick!

We get a recap of Sasha Banks at the Daytona 500.

Edge is hanging out backstage when King Baron Corbin rolls up.

He says this feels like the main event of WrestleMania and Edge says that’s interesting. Corbin says SmackDown is his kingdom now, and talks about how expensive his suit and watch are and how Edge should bow down. Edge shows him his “timepiece”, which is his phone.

We see the ring crew installing the set for Ding Dong, Hello! to send us to break.

Back from commercial, we get the intro for Ding Dong, Hello! and Bayley walks through her door.

She introduces her guests, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, who are behind the door now. They try to walk through the door at the same time but it’s not wide enough, and it takes a few tries before finally Nia walks through first. Bayley says she knows how taxing it is to be on all three shows and she’s not mad about them taking the tag titles because it meant she finally got rid of Sasha Banks and found herself.

She says there’s a rumor that she might be taking Ellen’s job, and Nia and Shayna run Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair down. This brings Reginald the Sommelier down, saying he can’t stand to have Banks be disrespected, comparing her to good wine and them to box wine. He gets in the ring and Nia gets in his face.

Enter Sasha Banks.

She tells Reginald that he doesn’t speak for her and addresses Nia and Shayna, saying the title means she makes the rules and the women’s division revolves around her.

Enter Bianca Belair.

She takes issue with Banks’ last statement, saying winning the Royal Rumble makes her the star of the division, and at WrestleMania— Reginald gets between them and says they’re all on the same team and says they should have a trios match. Nia accepts the challenge and calls for a referee! They all bicker and we go to break.

Bayley, Nia Jax, & Shayna Baszler vs. Bianca Belair, Reginald the Sommelier, & Sasha Banks

Baszler and Belair to start, Bianca with a waistlock takedown, clubbing Shayna down, drawing her up, tag to Banks. Glam Slam 2 Sleep, Reginald slingshots in for a high five but they yell at him to get back on the apron. Jax takes advantage of the confusion to tag in and blasts Sasha, taking her into the corner to isolate her with quick tags.

Banks eventually sidesteps Nia, Bayley pulls Bianca off the apron, Sasha nails her with a kick and hits a jawbreaker on Jax, tag to Reginald! He begs off at first, collar and elbow, and Nia shoves him down in the corner! She takes issue with his judgment earlier, saying she’s expensive wine. Leg drop, she lands on her hole again when Reggie sidesteps, and Banks and Belair pull Baszler off the apron to beat her down!

Nia backs up, Reginald corkscrews at her and she catches him only to see it turned into a crossbody thanks to double dropkicks from his teammates...

Bianca Belair, Reginald the Sommelier, & Sasha Banks win by pinfall with an assisted crossbody from Reginald on Nia Jax.

Cesaro is interviewed backstage.

He says he heard everything Seth Rollins has to say and he was out there to respect him. Just like everyone else, he was hoping for an attitude change because he’s known Seth for years and he wants the old Seth back as the leader everyone knows he can be, and instead he came back as a smug, condescending SOB.

Enough of the past, he needs to keep his momentum rolling into Elimination Chamber on Sunday so he can win the Universal Championship.

Edge rolls up and says he digs Cesaro’s attitude lately and he thinks he has grit. Cesaro says he knows what’s next after Elimination Chamber, because he’ll see Edge in the main event of WrestleMania.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio make their entrance to send us to break.

Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis Dozovic) vs. Dominik & Rey Mysterio

The Dirty Dawgs are on commentary for this one.Gable and Dominik to start, Chad in control, waistlock takedown, German suplex, Mysterio lands on his feet, overhead arm drag, dropkick, kip-up! Otis tags in, shoulder block, Rey tags in, shoulder blocks, springboard seated senton, springboard crossbody, Otis counters into a World’s Strongest Slam! Big splash follows, he clubs Dom in when he tries to save his dad!

Referee Jessika Carr admonishes Gable for refusing to leave the ring, she makes her count...

Dominik & Rey Mysterio win by disqualification due to Chad Gable refusing to leave the ring at the referee’s behest, although no finish is announced because that’s the world we live in now.

Gable continues giving Dozer instructions, calling for him to squash Rey with a 747 Splash off the top!

We see Daniel Bryan shadowboxing backstage when Edge rolls up on him.

Edge thanks him for inspiring him to get his career back and giving him hope that he could. Bryan says he’s glad he’s back and if he wants to express his gratitude he’s got an idea— if he wins at Elimination Chamber and beats Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, why not pick him? Edge says some might call that a dream match, and Dan says it’s long overdue.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we see referee Jessika Carr and Dominik Mysterio helping Rey to the back.

Cesaro and Daniel Bryan are chatting backstage when Kevin Owens rolls up to talk strategy. They say they were talking about what they’d do if they get Stunner’d in the middle of the match and discuss all the times KO has turned on his friends. Owens says they don’t have to worry because they’re a team and quite frankly, he really wants to win the match.

But they do have to worry about a Stunner or two or three or maybe even four on Sunday.

Carmella is sitting at her vanity backstage when Reginald rolls up with a glass of wine for her. She asks where he was and he says he was letting the wine breathe appropriately, but she’s not having it because we all saw him out there. He tries to explain, she shushes him and tells him to relax, she understands and knows he’s going to do the right thing, because if he doesn’t, well... let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.

She sips the wine, spits it out, splashes it in his face and says it’s disgusting.

Edge makes his entrance, he’ll be on commentary for our main event.

Back from commercial, we get some hype for tomorrow morning’s edition of Talking Smack.

King Baron Corbin, Jey Uso, & Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens & Team Uppercut (Cesaro & Daniel Bryan)

Bryan and Uso to start, collar and elbow, into the corner and Jey unloads with strikes. Dan turns him around, tag to Cesaro, double slam, Corbin tags in as a fakeout and then tags Zayn in. Tag back to Bryan, lighting Sami up with uppercuts, arm wringer, whip reversed and Zayn hammers him with a knee! Short-arm knee strikes to the midsection, the heels have Bryan isolated but they waste time bickering and he tags Cesaro back in!

Uppercut city, whip across, corkscrew uppercuts corner to corner! Giant Swing, Corbin tags in and Cesaro swings him, too! And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Cesaro’s swinging Corbin again, step-through blocked, clear the apron, Uso pulls him out of the ring and throws him over the commentary desk! Back inside, Cesaro gets worked over as the heat segment rolls on. Cesaro makes his comeback on Baron, corkscrew uppercut, the path is clear! Tags made, Sami and Bryan, Dan comes in on fire and hammers him with punches!

Whip reversed, backflip up and over, off the ropes... AXE BOMBER! Bryan fired up, running corner dropkicks, chest kicks in the corner, avalanche Frankensteiner... USO BREAKS IT UP!
