On last night’s (Feb. 17) episode of Dynamite, AEW commentator Jim Ross made a mistake that is now all over the internet. He referred to AEW world champion Kenny Omega as the “WWE champion.”

Maybe one day Kenny Omega will indeed be the WWE champion, if WWE ever walks through the Forbidden Door to do business with Tony Khan (and Khan is then allowed to book a WWE title program with zero involvement from Vince McMahon). But for now, the WWE championship is firmly around the waist of Drew McIntyre, who took to Twitter to poke fun at the situation:

As for Jim Ross screwing this one up, I would imagine he’s not amused by it either. It would be easier to see this happening if AEW was still brand new, but their championship has existed for 1.5 years, so that’s not exactly the case. I guess when you work for WWE as long as Ross has, it’s hard to get their brand name completely out of your system. On the bright side, at least he didn’t refer to Omega as the “WWF champion.”
At the end of the day, though, it’s a harmless mistake that hopefully everyone can share a laugh over.
Did you notice JR’s gaffe on last night’s broadcast of Dynamite?
