Bobby Lashley is running out of time to win the WWE championship

New, comments

Bobby Lashley has never been WWE champion.

He had a couple runs with the ECW world championship during his first stint with the company, and has been Intercontinental and United States champion a couple times as well, but he’s never won the top title in the promotion. He knows full well he’s running out of time to make that happen.

As he told SI:

“The world title, that’s been my priority since I came back. That hasn’t changed. When I returned to WWE, I came in and paid respect to the guys who were here. Ever since, I’ve been focused on I taking steps to show I am the guy.

“This is going to be my year. I have a different level of confidence. Even at my age, I don’t think there is anyone working harder than me. I know that my finish line is soon. I won’t be here for another 10 or 15 years like Ricochet or Cedric. I’m running to the finish line, and I’m hitting it hard. This is the year for me.”

For now, Drew McIntyre, the current WWE champion, is dealing with an Elimination Chamber match with five challengers for his title, none of which are Lashley, who is the current U.S. champion. Bobby will be defending that title on the same pay-per-view, in a triple threat against Keith Lee and Matt Riddle.

After all that shakes out, McIntyre will still have a feud with Sheamus (assuming WWE isn’t pivoting away from it) to work out. But he doesn’t have a clear opponent for WrestleMania 37, especially if reports are true and Edge will be choosing to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal title. Might Lashley finally accomplish his dream at the biggest show of the year?

Even if he doesn’t, there’s plenty of time left in 2021. We shall see if this is indeed his year.

Tick tock.
