Roman Reigns’ BLOCKBUSTER ANNOUNCEMENT part of his ongoing chess match with Adam Pearce (UPDATED)

When Universal champion Roman Reigns and his entourage made their way to the ring to start the Feb. 12 SmackDown for their promised “blockbuster announcement”, untitled kayfabe authority figure Adam Pearce was already in the ring waiting for them.

Pearce was waiting for the Head of the Table so he could tell him he’d have to defend his title in an Elimination Chamber match, just like WWE champ Drew McIntyre will.

In response to that, Reigns passed the microphone to his counselor. Paul Heyman told Pearce that Roman’s contract says he has to defend the title at the Elimination Chamber PPV on Sun., Feb. 21, not in an Elimination Chamber match. So the Tribal Chief will face whoever wins a #1 contender Chamber... later that same night.

Scrap Daddy wasn’t completely outflanked. In response to this news, he immediately booked two of the six men for SmackDown’s Chamber: Roman’s cousin Jey Uso, and his nemesis Kevin Owens.

An angry Universal champ cornered Pearce, but Heyman convinced him to back off - for now.

Will Pearce or Reigns have the upper hand when tonight’s qualifying matches are done?

UPDATE: Sami Zayn & King Corbin were the next two to join Owens & Uso after winning a tag match over Rey & Dominik Mysterio.

UPDATE 2: Daniel Bryan & Cesaro defeated Tag champs Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode in the main event to round out the Chamber cast.

While they were celebrating, Zayn & Corbin showed up at ringside and Jey attacked them from behind. The melee continued until Owens ran in and hit everyone with Stunners. He then pulled up a chair and told the champ he’ll see him “real soon.”

Roman watched from a monitor backstage, looking none too happy.
