WWE fired 18 wrestlers tonight, including well-known stars like Keith Lee, Karrion Kross, Nia Jax, and Eva Marie.
WWE has released so many wrestlers in 2021 that it’s natural for pro wrestling fans to speculate about which ones will eventually sign with AEW. Some folks even think WWE’s strategy for putting AEW out of business is to get AEW head honcho Tony Khan to keep spending a ton of money on all of these released wrestlers. I can’t really blame the people who subscribe to that conspiracy theory given Vince McMahon is the one who seemingly brought it up in the first place.
With that in mind, AEW world champion Kenny Omega reacted to tonight’s breaking news by expressing how eager he is to pad his tremendous Win-Loss record at the expense of some of these released wrestlers.
Old rivals, old friends, some I’ve never encountered… I don’t mind padding my record if they don’t mind being a statistic. See if I care.

Meanwhile, AEW wrestler and AAA tag team champion Dax Hardwood knows what it’s like to be super successful in NXT only to be buried into obscurity, turned into a comedy act, and released from main roster WWE. He reacted to the news on Twitter in a very different way from Omega:
Independent Contractors. What a thing…

I wish WCW would’ve won.

I’m sure there are many longtime pro wrestling fans who are nodding their heads in agreement with Dax on that one.
