WWE is building Drew McIntyre up for Roman Reigns

When Drew McIntyre was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown, it seemed clear that meant there would be a showdown with Universal Champion Roman Reigns at some point or another. That may not be happening anytime soon, but it’s become clear it is indeed where we’re headed.

McIntyre has issued open challenges two weeks in a row, defeating Sami Zayn last week and Mustafa Ali this week, and he’s declared he’ll continue to do so until he gets to the top of the card:

“I will continue to do it for — I think there are, what, 28, 29 guys on the SmackDown roster? The next 27, 28, 29 weeks I’ll beat everybody. I don’t mind starting from the bottom and working to the top. Like I said last week, I will inevitably get that title match with The Big Dog, with The Head of the Table, whatever name he’s going by these days. Whatever I have to do. I’m a patient man, but it’s going to happen.”

It’s not a matter of if, it seems, it’s a matter of when.
