Greg Hamilton confirms WWE release: ‘This was a mutual respect departure’

After word got out last night (Oct. 26) that WWE had released ring announcer Greg Hamilton, Hamilton posted this statement to Instagram confirming the news:

Hamilton made headlines over the weekend when he threatened to sue to rapper and wrestling superfan Westside Gunn for using a sample of his voice in a song, and claimed WWE lawyers would be involved on his behalf. The announcer, whose real name is Greg Hutson, also mocked Lio Rush’s retirement on Twitter back in June. He later apologized.

This Instagram statement refutes that incidents like that, or other allegations currently being shared on social media, are behind his departure. Instead, he points to his personal commitments making a professional life on the road impossible.

Since joining WWE in 2015, Hamilton has worked on most of the company’s brands. He’s been a fixture on main roster shows for the last five years, and was on-screen for the company as recently as last week.
