Bron Breakker falls short in first NXT title shot

Bron Breakker, who is young into his pro wrestling career but already well on his way to being just as good as his dad and uncle ever were, got his first shot at the NXT world championship in the main event of tonight’s (Tues., Oct. 26, 2021) Halloween Havoc event.

He came up short.

But while he may have lost the fight, the story was all about the fact that it had everything to do with his relative inexperience in comparison to his opponent, reigning Champion Tommaso Ciampa, who, to his credit, gave an awful lot throughout the match. That is to say, Ciampa made him look every bit like he belonged in that main event match so early into his career, and like there was a real chance he was going to win the title.

That’s a testament to not just Breakker but Ciampa’s otherworldly talent. This served as a showcase of both the future and the fact that WWE made a damn good decision making a veteran like Tommaso the early face of the new NXT. He’s a strong veteran presence, yes, but if he’s going to be delivering matches like this while elevating those he’s working with, the brand will look a lot better in a much shorter time than anyone could possibly anticipate.

As for Breakker, he’ll be just fine coming out of this. Straight from the NXT Twitter:

Damn right he is.
