King of the Ring Tournament Final
Xavier Woods’ dream is on the cusp of becoming a reality. The only thing standing in the Prince of Positivity’s way? Another Prince, Finn Bálor.
The Road to Crown Jewel
Bálor fought his way past Cesaro and Sami Zayn to reach Oct. 21’s final in Mohammed Abdu Arena on the Boulevard. Woods dispatched Ricochet and Jinder Mahal.
It would seem to be a friendly showdown between two men who respect one another. But with Finn coming off a high profile loss to Univeral champion Roman Reigns, and The New Day-er so close to something he’s publicly quested after for a long time (not to mention at long last getting a hint of the singles success his brothers Kofi Kingston and Big E have already experienced)... things got a little testy after the Irishman’s match on the go home show.
Kingston was able to keep things cool there, but he won’t need to do that when Bálor and Woods play the game of thrones in in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
What to watch for
A hell of a match. The two-time NXT champ isn’t my personal favorite, but there’s no arguing he’s a crisp performer that’s been in some bangers throughout his lengthy, legendary career. His opponent may be primarily known as a tag wrestler, but since coming back from his Achilles injury last year, he’s proven he’s more than capable of delivering on his own, too.
As to a victor... who does WWE have bigger plans for? The answer to that may not tell us who the winner is. King of the Ring has become a midcard gimmick over the past decade or so. Another way to look at it: will they continue the trend of having a heel wear the crown? If so, a Bálor turn is probably more likely. But who knows?
