The Bella Twins started talking comeback almost as soon as they announced their retirement. It was a consistent theme in interviews from the WWE Hall of Famers, up to as recently as a few months ago.
But now Nikki, whose surgically repaired neck is the key reason the pioneering duo retired in the first place, says that a return to the ring has been ruled out for her.
Appearing on Sippin’ The Tea (hosted by another former WWE Superstar who’s been talking comeback, Ariane “Cameron” Andrew), Nikki spilled the tea on her sports entertainment future. The subject came up when Andrew and her co-host Matt Dillon asked if Nik wants to her son Matteo to see her wrestle:
“That would be amazing to me. But because he is my everything, I have to listen to the doctors and as of now, they’ve put me on the retired bench for life.
“So, it would take a lot of scans, x-rays, and all this different stuff for them to actually approve me to have a run and so that would be unlikely – that will be years down the road.”
Like the pro wrestler she is, Nikki gives herself a little bit of an out here. And as people like Tamina, Mickie James, and Natalya prove that women can wrestle into their 40s just as well as anyone else, who knows? Maybe one more match will be possible for Bella “down the road”.
Right now, both sisters seem content to leave the ring in their rear view. Brie explained:
“You just kind of evolve differently. We’re gonna always have a love for professional wrestling.
“It was a huge part of our lives, and it was such a great time traveling the world, and getting the ring, but for me, I just feel like I’m in such a different place in my life and a place I really love.
“We’re gonna be 38 in November and I’m like, you know too, for us to be winemakers and well, I can’t imagine taking a bump right now.”
