Xavier Woods, Jinder Mahal advance in King of the Ring tournament

@WWE

The first round of the King of the Ring tournament wrapped up on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in San Francisco, with two match-ups featuring wrestlers from the red brand attempting to advance to the semifinals.

Get a look at the full bracket right here.

In the first match, Xavier Woods, who spent many, many months campaigning for the return of this tournament so he could achieve his dream of winning it, ran up against Ricochet. After a hard fought, back-and-forth battle, Woods used a flying elbow to score a pinfall victory.

One step closer.

Later, his tag team partner in The New Day, Kofi Kingston, went up against Jinder Mahal who, at least for now, still had Veer and Shanky by his side. The numbers advantage opened the door for Mahal, but ultimately he used his finish to win the match without any help from the outside.

Woods will meet Mahal in the semifinals on next week’s episode of Raw.
