Goldberg’s return means there is a new favorite to win the Royal Rumble

Last week I wrote at length about how Goldberg had a good chance to win the men’s 2021 Royal Rumble match on Jan. 31. Thankfully I’m a big dummy, and Goldberg will instead challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE championship on that night. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Goldberg performs double-duty on that night, but it seems very unlikely.

That means someone else besides Goldberg will probably win the Royal Rumble match. Here are some of the top wrestlers in Bovada’s betting odds for both Royal Rumble matches as of Tuesday morning, in the aftermath of Goldberg’s awkward return angle with McIntyre:

2021 Men’s Royal Rumble odds as of Jan. 5

Daniel Bryan +300
Keith Lee +450
Big E +600
Brock Lesnar +800
Edge +1000
Goldberg +1200
Bray Wyatt +1600
Seth Rollins +1600
Kevin Owens +2000
AJ Styles +2000

2021 Women’s Royal Rumble odds as of Jan. 5

Bianca Belair +400
Alexa Bliss +600
Rhea Ripley +800
Ronda Rousey +1000
Bayley +1000
Charlotte Flair +1200
Shayna Baszler +1600
Sasha Banks +1600
Nia Jax +1600
Sonya Deville +1600

With Goldberg no longer much of a threat to enter the Royal Rumble match, Daniel Bryan’s odds have skyrocketed to the top. Given that Kevin Owens will probably be dealing with Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble, and Big E is doing mid card champion things with Apollo Crews and King Corbin, Bryan stands out as the leading contender to challenge Reigns for the Universal championship at WrestleMania 37. Though I suppose it’s not the craziest idea in the world that SmackDown could debut a hot new babyface very soon.

On the women’s side, Bianca Belair remains a favorite despite her current losing streak. Alexa Bliss has quietly moved up, so it’s a good thing she wasn’t burned to a crisp by Randy Orton. Finally, the sudden return of Sonya Deville is good enough to boost her into the top ten.

Have the events of the last week changed your perspective on who is most likely to win the men and women’s Royal Rumble matches on Jan. 31?
