Earlier this afternoon (Jan. 30), WWE’s Mia Yim posted this on her Twitter account:
Yim, who portrays RECKONING in Raw’s RETRIBUTION stable, was on television this past Monday. She was not announced for the women’s Royal Rumble match on tomorrow’s PPV, but likely would have been included, as the 30 wrestler battle royal is typically an all hands on deck affair for the ladies.
It’s also noteworthy for a WWE contracted wrestler to reveal a positive test, and there were instances last year where the company was reportedly unhappy with on-screen performers for doing so. As she says in her statement, her decision was based on having refuted a rumor earlier. But perhaps WWE’s approach has changed now that they revealed Drew McIntyre’s COVID diagnosis and incorporated it into his work on Raw.
Yim also has a Twitter account for the RECKONING character, and there’s no mention of the news there. She’s one of several contracted talents who’s worked to prevent WWE from trademarking the name she’s used outside the company.
Regardless of how this impact’s Royal Rumble or how WWE reacts to Mia sharing the news, please join us in wishing her a full and speedy recovery.
