The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Royal Rumble event set to take place on Sun., Jan. 31, 2021, at the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, the company’s annual beginning of the year showcase featuring its most popular gimmick match. It will crown the next number one contender to either the Raw (World) or SmackDown (Universal) championship for the men, and either the Raw or SmackDown women’s title for the women.
We’re still a couple weeks out from showtime, and here’s what is set so far:
- Men’s Royal Rumble match
Here’s who is officially in the match as of now: Jeff Hardy, Jey Uso, Cesaro, The Miz, Otis, United States Champion Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler
- Women’s Royal Rumble match
Here’s who is officially in the match as of now: Shayna Baszler, Alexa Bliss, Peyton Royce, Bianca Belair, Bayley, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, Tamina, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens (Universal championship Last Man Standing match)
This was originally set as Reigns vs. Adam Pearce, who Roman basically ensured would get the match before manipulating the contract signing to make it a Last Man Standing match. Pearce then exercised his power as a WWE official and took himself out for not being medically cleared, replacing himself with Owens.
- Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Goldberg (WWE championship)
Goldberg returned on Legends Night to say he wants a shot at McIntyre and the title he’s holding. McIntyre agreed to the challenge the next week, though he did so after revealing he is currently dealing with COVID-19. McIntyre’s recovery went to schedule and he’s back and ready to go.
- Sasha Banks (c) vs. Carmella (SmackDown women’s championship)
Banks agreed to give Carmella a title shot so long as she could wrestle her assistant, Reginald, in a singles match. That happened on “SmackDown” this past week. Banks won via submission.
It’s worth noting that Intercontinental Champion Big E was shown in a graphic for the men’s Royal Rumble but he is not currently listed as being in the match on WWE.com. He’s been feuding with Apollo Crews over his title.
That’s it so far.
