Triple H’s plan to get people to pay attention to the purple brand kicks into high gear. Plus, a look at the men’s bracket after Friday night’s action.

The 2021 edition of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is happening on two of Triple H’s brands, with first round matches happening on NXT and 205 Live. And on the first episode of the purple brand to feature men’s matches, we learned the inaugural women’s tournament will start on 205 Live next Friday night (Jan. 22).

Only four women’s teams have been revealed so far, and the announcement at the close of last night’s 205 Live didn’t mention who would be competing in next week’s kick-off. Toni Storm & Mercedes Martinez vs. Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter is already booked for next week’s NXT. So Friday’s match would either have to be Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell vs. Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon, or feature a team or teams we don’t know about yet.

Whatever it is will be the first women’s match in 205 Live history. Alicia Fox and Sasha Banks have been featured on the show when it was linked to the Raw brand, but they never had a match on the show.

Meanwhile, the first round of the men’s tournament continued last night (Jan. 15). As expected, both teams who feature prominently on NXT were victorious over the teams who don’t feature prominently on NXT. Cruiserweight champ Santos Escobar’s Legado Del Fantasma stablemates Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza defeated Bollywood Boyz, and Drake Maverick’s return to 205 Live was a success as he & Killian Dain beat Curt Stallion & August Grey.

Here’s what the bracket looks like heading into next week:

WWE Network

Imperium vs. Lucha House Party and The Way vs. Kushida & Leon Ruff were already announced for the Jan. 20 NXT; Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari vs. Ashante “Thee” Adonis & Desmond Troy is set for next Friday’s 205 Live.

We’ll let you know how all those matches turn out. You let us know if any of this is enough to get you to add 205 Live to your weekly wrestling diet.
