Title and champions vs. champions matches set for next Monday’s Raw

Raw’s a show desperately in need of some fresh match-ups, so we’re pretty excited for the two championship matches they booked for Sept. 14... even if one kind of jumps the gun on the Survivor Series gimmick, and the other doesn’t stand much of a chance in resulting in a title change.

SmackDown Tag champs Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro read the fine print on the brand-to-brand invitation rule and showed up last night (Mon., Sept. 7) to challenge Raw Tag Champs Street Profits. It’s presumably non-title, but we’re okay with “wrestlers want to prove they’re the best” as stakes. We’re also okay with anything that breaks the cycle of Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins facing Andrade & Angel Garza over and over for months.

We’re definitely cool with an Asuka vs. Mickie James match. James’ return to WWE started when she challenged the Empress’ at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016 in a really fun match. Another go round between two future Hall of Famers should be just as good, even if we doubt Asuka’s reign will end at Mickie’s hands. In fact, we wouldn’t rule out a non-finish due to interference from the women James & the champ teamed up to beat this week, Lana & Natalya.

But different is good. And at least they have some stuff planned in advance, unlike yesterday...

You excited for the Sept. 14 Raw?
