WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR SEPT. 7
All got your kicks from what you saw up there, eight bucks even buys a folding chair. I was downing Seagram’s on another flight and I worked that stage all night long. You were screaming for the villain up there and I was much obliged. The old road sure screwed me good this time, it’s hard to see where the vicious circle ends, but right now I’ve got to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you folks.
The show opens into the intro video.
Randy Orton makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He says last week he told the world he’d jump through whatever hoops he had to in order to earn his rematch for the WWE Championship, and he beat Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and Keith Lee to get there. Now he finds himself facing Lee again and the more they cross paths, the more likely he is to kick him in the head.
He says he’d list off everyone he’s ever kicked in the head, but Raw is only three hours long. (I mean, it’d be an easy night for me, but sure) He addresses Drew McIntyre, saying the truth is he kicked him in the freakin’ head and broke his jaw. This brings up a recap of the fracturing of his jaw, because Raw is—
And what do you do if the champion can’t defend his title at the one show of the year where every champion has to defend their title? It’s simple, you hand Orton the belt. He’s a patient man but he doesn’t know if he can— Sirens ring out across the arena and an ambulance drives up. Drew McIntyre gets out!
He storms the ring and lays Randy out with a Claymore! Raining punches down as referees try to pull him away, and he backs off.
The Hurt Business are shown walking backstage and chatting earlier today. They walk past a janitor and Montel Vontavious Porter accuses him of saying something about Shelton Benjamin’s mother. Bobby Lashley holds the guy against the wall as they berate him and he denies he said anything. Shelton sucker punches him and MVP warns him to watch what he says.
Apollo Crews makes his entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Drew McIntyre is walking backstage and he runs into five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce.
Pearce says he’s not cleared and he shouldn’t be here, and Drew said he’s just sending a message that he’s going to be at Clash of Champions. Adam says he gets it, but respectfully he needs him to leave the premises, and McIntyre agrees to leave.
Pearce turns to his security detail and tells them to make sure they don’t have any other uninvited guests.
The Hurt Business beat Cedric Alexander down during his entrance and his buddies make the save!
Apollo Crews, Cedric Alexander, & Ricochet vs. the Hurt Business (Bobby Lashley, Montel Vontavious Porter, & Shelton Benjamin)
Crews and Lashley to start, Apollo blasts him off the apron and beats him down on the floor! Back inside, Bob cuts him off and puts boots to him. Whip across, lariat, charging attacks, quick tags as the Hurt Business solidify their control. Working him over, eventually Crews lays Benjamin out with an enzuigiri and the path is clear!
Crawling for the tag... CEDRIC ALEXANDER PULLS RICOCHET OFF THE APRON AND BEATS HIM DOWN! LUMBAR CHECK ON CREWS! Referee Eddie Orengo doesn’t know what to do with himself and lets it play out... PAYDIRT! IT’S OVER!
The Hurt Business win by pinfall with Paydirt from Shelton Benjamin on Apollo Crews.
Post-match, Alexander and the Hurt Business boys share a moment and we go to break.
Andrade “Cien” Almas & Angel Garza vs. Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)
Garza and Ford to start, Angel immediately tears his pants off and takes control with a side headlock. Shot off, leapfrog, Garza has him scouted but Montez blasts him with a lariat! Angel tags out, Almas berates him as Ford tags out as well, and when he turns around, Dawkins is ready with a dropkick! Overhead exploder suplex, Andrade sidesteps the spinning Stinger Splash and yells at Garza.
Zelina Vega yells at him too, and he goes to leave. Angelo catches Almas with the Sky High, tag made...
Street Profits win by pinfall with a frog splash from Montez Ford on Andrade “Cien” Almas.
Post-match, Garza finishes walking out.
...and the Artist Collective make their entrance?!
Commentary dredges up the brand-to-brand invitation to justify the SmackDown tag champs being on Raw and we go to break.
Back from commercial, the two sets of tag champs are chatting in the ring.
The Artist Collective say the Street Profits are the longest-reigning Raw champs in a minute but everybody just thinks about bowling and whatnot, so they came to Raw to show them what real champions look like, and they want a champion vs. champion match. Angelo Dawkins says the Street Profits are more than a team, they’re a family.
Montez Ford tells Cesaro he’s had so many partners he might want to get tested for STDs, but they’re in on the champion vs. champion match.
We see footage from earlier of R-Truth getting excited about his dessert at a restaurant when a ninja pokes his head out of the table. Akira Tozawa and a ninja referee roll up, Truth throws the title at Little Jimmy, who fails to catche it, throws his water on a ninja, and runs Tozawa and his ref over with the cart, leaving with it.
Peyton Royce makes her entrance to send us to break.
Billie Kay vs. Peyton Royce
Collar and elbow, Royce with a side headlock takeover, headscissors counter, do it again from the other direction. They jaw at each other, desultory slaps, Peyton hoists her up in the Gory Special but Kay gets out. Leg-feed into a powerbomb, denied, trip, elbow drop misses, waistlock, Royce with a nearfall.
Cutthroat choke, Billie throws her off, rams her into the corner, shoulder thrusts, waterwheel drop, only two. Leg trap, Peyton fights out, Kay with a schoolboy for two. Royce kicks at her...
Peyton Royce wins by pinfall with a Final Cut.
Post-match, Royce helps her former partner to her feet and hugs her.
We get a recap of all the Rollins/Mysterio business and commentary informs us that Dominik Mysterio will wrestle Buddy Murphy later.
We see the Mysterio family walking backstage with Murphy in the background to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of our opening segment, because Raw is three hours long.
The Mysterio family come to the ring for their interview.
Rey Mysterio thanks Charly Caruso for having them and says he doesn’t have an exact timetable for his return from his tricep injury. He talks about how proud he is of his son and says he knows what he needs to do to put and end to Murphy tonight. Dominik starts talking about what it means to represent his family every week when Buddy calls in from the tron.
He says he should feel awful, because it’s Dom’s fault that the one man that picked him up when he fell down turned his back on him. Because of him, the Monday Night Messiah wants nothing to do with him. Rey says it’s not their fault, he’s reaped what he’s sown, and Murphy says he’s going to make the ultimate sacrifice by ending Dominik’s career before it begins.
To do so, he challenges him to make their match a Street Fight tonight. Dom agrees! Buddy tells him to bring his family ringside, because it’s the last match of his they’ll get to see. Mysterio says if he lays a hand on his family, it’ll be the last breath he takes.
The women’s tag champs are backstage talking with five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce, complaining about both being booked in handicap matches against the Riott Squad tonight. He gets distracted by Drew McIntyre walking past and checks with him to make sure he’s leaving the building, which he is.
Asuka makes her entrance, she’ll be in action after the break.
Asuka & Mickie James vs. Lana & Natalya
Natalya and Mickie to start, a bit of mat grappling, babyface team pulls ahead and starts making tags but Neidhart gets away and tags Lana in. Asuka backs her into the ropes, catches a kick, rolling solebutt, off the ropes, hip attack dodged but James makes the tag! Duck the lariat, Lou Thesz Press into punches but Nattie made the blind tag and cuts her off.
Working Mickie over in the corner, quick tags, heat segment rolls on at length, the match breaks down and James gets a hangman’s neckbreaker for separation but nobody’s in the corner to tag! Rolling with it, she goes up top but Asuka gets up and tags in! She grabs the Asuka Lock on Lana, Mickie cuts Nattie off...
Asuka & Mickie James win by submission with the Asuka Lock from Asuka on Lana.
We go backstage where MVP asks Cedric Alexander if he’s ready to make this official in the VIP Lounge. He agrees, and Shelton Benjamin says if he’s faking, he’s going to be the one to teach him why they call themselves the Hurt Business.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, the Hurt Business make their entrance with Cedric Alexander among them.
They get in the ring and Montel Vontavious Porter welcomes us to the VIP Lounge.
He welcomes Cedric as the newest member of the Hurt Business and bids Bobby Lashley to present him with a t-shirt. Montel says it took him a long time to come to his senses and he needs to know what made the change. Shelton Benjamin says he really wants to know, and Alexander says it’s as simple as he didn’t want to be on the end of a beatdown every week, and he’d rather learn and earn.
He was broke with Apollo Crews and Ricochet, and it was hard being tag partners with the One and Only. And why sacrifice his body and career for someone else’s championship opportunity, and the Hurt Business is the future—
Enter the Viking Raiders, joined shortly thereafter by Crews and Ricochet.
They rush the ring and we get a brawl! The babyfaces clear the ring and we go to break!
Apollo Crews, Ricochet, & Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) vs. the Hurt Business (Bobby Lashley, Cedric Alexander, Montel Vontavious Porter, & Shelton Benjamin)
Benjamin and Ricochet to start, the One and Only gets away and tags Crews and they work Shelton over. Standing moonsault from Apollo for two, Stinger Splash, Porter tags in but the babyfaces still have an advantage and dominate this stretch of the match. MVP gets the upper hand on Crews eventually, and now the heels have the heat segment.
Erik tags in in relatively short order but Lashley spears him practically out of his boots! Heels back in control, resuming their heat segment. Tags made, Ricochet in hot, clear the apron, enzuigiri to MVP, quebradas connect but Cedric breaks it up! Former partners jaw at each other and Montel lays Ricky out with a northern lariat for a tight two count!
Alexander tags in, Neuralyzer lays Ricochet out... NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP HIM DOWN! Lumbar Check blocked, trading forearms, float over the suplex, superkick stagggers Cedric, Dragon suplex... MVP BREAKS IT UP! The match breaks down into “everybody do something cool” territory, Ivar off the ropes with a big man tope!
Going for the 630 senton, Alexander dodges and hits a Michinoku Driver, Ricochet kicks out but the bell rings and we’re supposed to take it like a kickout at 3.1...
The Hurt Business win by pinfall with a Michinoku Driver from Cedric Alexander on Ricochet.
Medics check on Ivar.
Backstage, Drew McIntyre is still in the building and he runs into an interview.
He says it would pain him to disappoint five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce by sticking around, but he grabbed the wrong phone, and wouldn’t you know it, he can’t find an exit, either.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial we get a hype reel for Connor’s Cure.
Shane McMahon is chilling outside of Raw Underground when Kevin Owens rolls up and McMahon says their past differences are water under the bridge.
Kev says he wishes he could say it was nice to see him, but he’s still a jackass. Shane wishes him luck and gets the door for him, brushing it off when the doorman brings it up afterwards.
Randy Orton makes his entrance and we get a recap of the opening segment, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)
Randy Orton and Keith Lee make their entrances and we go to break.
Keith Lee vs. Randy Orton
Orton bailing almost immediately and taking a breather, back in to break the count, again taking a breather, but this time when he comes back in Lee gets right on him. Thumb to the eye, uppercuts, whip reversed, go for the RKO, Keith blocks! Standing himself up straight, shoving Randy off, laying him out with a back elbow!
The Viper goes to the floor, Lee follows out after him but he drops down and avoids the pounce! Referee John Cone counting, Keith back in at eight but he runs right into the Garvin Stomp! Reverse chinlock applied, falling back and applying a bodyscissors to really sink the hooks in. LEE STANDS UP IN THE CHINLOCK AND RAMS ORTON INTO THE CORNER TO BREAK!
Keith blocks the RKO a second time and Randy’s jaw is bugging him from the Claymore earlier. Stinger Splash sets up a charging forearm, Tour of the Islands, no dice! Hoisting him up, thinking Spirit Bomb but Orton slips out the back door, RKO... DREW MCINTYRE HITS THE CLAYMORE! Cone has no choice...
Randy Orton wins by unannounced disqualification.
McIntyre gets down on the mat and tells Orton he wants him to start seeing him in his nightmares.
Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce comes down to scold Drew for not leaving, and sends referees to check on Randy.
We go to Raw Underground where Aleister Black is laying a dude out with Black Mass.
Kevin Owens joins the fray and takes Black down! Brawling on the mat, drawing him up for hockey punches, big spinebuster into pulling Aleister off the ring and ramming him into the apron! Back body drop, we go to break.
Back from commercial, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is apologizing to Randy Orton.
Orton berates him and Pearce says he walked Drew McIntyre out of the building himself. Randy tells him his word means nothing to him and he leaves.
Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott) vs. Shayna Baszler (Handicap Match)
Riott to start, Baszler with a side headlock, working on her arm, Morgan tags in but Shayna knocks her off the apron. Liv dropkicks her on the apron, leg kicks back inside, big Karelin lift from Baszler! Stepping on Morgan’s hand, but Nia talks trash and she gets distracted...
Riott Squad win by pinfall with some kind of pinning predicament from Liv Morgan.
Commercial.
Back from commercial, we get some hype for tonight’s edition of Raw Talk.
We go back to Raw Underground where Kevin Owens and Aleister Black are still fighting.
Black gets a triangle choke but Owens cold swings him off the ring and into a support beam!
Nia Jax vs. Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott) (Handicap Match)
Riott to start, looking for a sunset flip but Nia cuts her off and headbutts her. Biel across the ring but Ruby gets her in the corner and cuts her off and the Riott Squad take control with quick tags. Jax cuts Riott off with a shoulder block, stepping on her hand but when she stomps, Ruby rolls away!
Body blows, Nia with a fireman’s carry, Liv tags in, the lights flicker, Riott Kick, Morgan hits the Codebreaker but the lights go out and referee Darrick Moore only gets to two.
No finish is announced, but presumably the match goes to a no-contest.
Retribution graphics come up and some of them appear on the tron, cutting a promo.
They say behind the ThunderDome is the same WWE as before, that discarded them and left them to feed on the scraps of content. Another one pipes up and says they’re going to lay waste and destroy every WWE superstar, and we go to break.
Back from commercial, commentary talks about Retribution’s mission statement a bit.
The Mysterio family are interviewed backstage and Rey says he’s going to be in Dominik’s corner and if Seth Rollins tries anything, he’ll regret it.
Back to Raw Underground, KO and Black still aren’t done, actually. Al fakes him out into a roundhouse, Babatunde gets involved and beats both guys up.
Randy Orton stumbles into an interview but Drew McIntyre blindsides him and beats him up some more! Claymore! He leaves Orton gasping and we go to break.
Back from commercial, commentary hypes up tomorrow’s episode of NXT.
The whole Mysterio family is armed with kendo sticks here.
Buddy Murphy vs. Dominik Mysterio (Street Fight)
Murphy with a knee out the gates, throwing Mysterio out of the ring and then into the barricade! Throwing him over the announce table, stalking around ringside but the wasted time proves a mistake as Dominik drops him with a lariat! Throwing Buddy over the announce desk, following him up the aisle!
They brawl into the area by the stage, Mysterio puts Murphy into the barricade and climbs up the ThunderDome LED boards... DIVING CROSSBODY SENDS US TO BREAK!
Back from commercial, Mysterio playing beatdown, up on the stage and back down the aisle, but Murphy gets a running start and palms him to the mat! Buddy with desultory kicks, dragging him over to the steel steps in front of his family but Dominik backs him up into the barricade! Boot up, Murphy gourdbusters him over the barricade!
Kicks to the spine, Buddy gets a chair and wallops Mysterio with it! Back inside, cover for two, drawing him up with an armlock into a Cobra Twist! Dominik hip tosses him over the ropes and to the floor to escape! Pop-up in the corner, Buddy slips out and posts him shoulder-first a few times! Tying Mysterio up in the ropes, Murphy grabs a kendo stick but Dom kicks him away!
Rey takes the kendo stick away before Buddy can grab it, he goes to the floor... DOMINIK SUNSET FLIP POWERBOMBS HIM THROUGH A TABLE! Back inside... FROG SPLASH FOR TWO! Tying Murphy up in the ropes, Rey slides in to keep watch and Dom lights Buddy up with kendo stick shots! Rey joins in from the floor!
Rey’s daughter and wife get in the ring and join in the fun! Buddy’s had enough, he verbally submits!
Dominik Mysterio wins by submission with repeated kendo stick shots.
Post-match, the Mysterio family keep lighting Murphy up!
That’s the show, folks!
