Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso title match set for Clash of Champions

@WWE

Surprise!

Big E was originally scheduled to wrestle in the main event of this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, but he was taken out by Sheamus early in the evening. That led to WWE having to find a replacement, which we later found out came with some influence from Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns.

That replacement was Jey Uso.

Then he went out and beat Sheamus, Baron Corbin, and, the man he pinned after a frogsplash, Matt Riddle to become the top contender to the Universal championship.

That made it official: Reigns will defend the Universal title against Uso at the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view scheduled for Sun., Sept. 27, 2020, in Orlando. It’s certainly not the expected first title defense, but it fits in with his heel turn.

After all, he’s been all about family for the entirety of his run in WWE. What better way to firmly establish his new bad guy persona than going against that?

Here’s the updated Clash of Champions lineup:

  • Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton (WWE championship)
  • Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso (Universal championship)
