Zelina Vega’s first shot at a singles title on the main roster in WWE was originally scheduled for the Kickoff show at tonight’s (Sun., Sept. 27, 2020) Clash of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, before some late changes put her on the main card. It was there she would get a chance to shine opposite Asuka while going after the Raw women’s championship.
It went about the way you thought it would.
Zelina worked an arm Asuka sold all throughout the match, and they had a pretty fun finishing sequence, but the end result was never in doubt: Asuka submitting Vega with the Asuka Lock clean in the middle of the ring.
Vega tapped almost immediately once the hold was locked in.
After, Asuka was asked by Charly Caruso if Zelina was a formidable opponent and the champ called her a “firecracker — small but dangerous. But Zelina was not ready for Asuka.”
Naturally, Vega bowed to Asuka post-match before using it as an opening to attack her once more. So this may not be over just yet, even though a clear winner was established.
