SmackDown Women’s championship match
Oh look! Another rematch at WWE’s Sun., Sept. 27 PPV!
The Road to Clash of Champions
Not that most of us don’t adore Nikki Cross, but I also don’t think most of us were clamoring for her to get a fourth chance to take the blue belt from Bayley.
Cross has actually faced the former Hugster six times in title matches*. In addition to the two recent and one 2019 one-on-one bouts, they’ve faced off three other times with the WWE Women’s Tag straps on the line. The Scotswoman’s never had her hand raised after any of them.
She earned this chance to break that streak by surviving a Sister Abigail from her increasingly Fiend-ish friend Alexa Bliss to win a 4Way that also featured Tamina and Lacey Evans.
Since then, well... not much. Nikki beat Lacey Evans after vowing to save Bliss from the thrall Bray Wyatt seems to have her under, prompting Evans to say that proves why Cross can’t beat the Role Model - she’s too nice. Then the #1 contender wasn’t even booked on the go home show, while Alexa got time to Sister Abigail the First Lady and Bayley cut a promo that was mostly about Sasha Banks.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention that? Perhaps even bigger news than Cross’ tag partner turning into a dreadlocked zombie is Bayley trying to break her bestie’s neck.
This title match seems to the ‘B’ plot for both women. Sasha Banks is selling injuries from Bayley’s latest chair attack on Sept. 18, so her presence might not be felt at Clash. But will Nikki be able to focus on the champ and not get distracted by Lexi’s issues?
What’s at stake
If she can’t, her record against Bayley in title matches will go to 0 - 7.
Gulp.

Who wins?
* Not counting house shows... remember those? If those were included, the second number in Cross’ record against Bayley would be higher. The first would still be zero, though.
