AEW’s ratings hold up well despite competition from NXT

AEW on Twitter

The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (Sept. 16) NXT and AEW television shows.

Per Showbuzz Daily, Dynamite netted 886,000 viewers for a .34 rating point in the 18-49 demographic. NXT checked in with 689,000 viewers for a .18 rating point in the same 18-49 demo.

For AEW, this is a drop of about 130,000 viewers from the prior week, and a decrease from last week’s 0.37 demo rating. For NXT, viewership decreased by about 149,000 viewers from last Tuesday night, and the demo rating fell from last Tuesday’s 0.22.

AEW rose from 7th to 3rd place in the demo rating for the night, while NXT came in at 31st place.

Thanks to NBA and NHL playoffs, this was the first time that AEW and NXT were going head-to-head against each other since Aug. 12. Both shows brought in numbers that were better than their respective results from that week, but of course below their levels from last week when they were unopposed by each other.

AEW will continue to see these numbers as a major success, particularly due to finishing in third place in the demo rating. Dynamite has reached a .30 or higher in the demo rating for eight of their last nine episodes, which is significantly ahead of their results from April through June. Their viewership mark of 886,000 is also impressive, beating out their results in every week from April through July.

The results are not great for NXT, who suffered more as a result of the direct competition. It’s hard to conclude from these numbers that they increased their reach over these last few weeks going unopposed by AEW.
