While Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are off handling business as women’s tag team champions, Asuka is dealing with the remainder of the division as Raw women’s champion. That meant defending her title against the recently returned Mickie James on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
These two had a damn good match upon James’ initial return to WWE back in 2016 at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, and they put together another solid match here. It deserved much better than the finish it was given.
After going back-and-forth, the champ put James in the Asuka Lock and though the challenger never tapped, or went out, the referee simply called for an end to the match and announced that James was unable to continue.
That was that.
James reacted to the referee like she was surprised and/or upset about the call but she quickly rolled out of the ring and wasn’t seen for the remainder of the segment. Instead, Zelina Vega quickly hit the scene and started talking about ditching Andrade and Angel Garza to wrestle for the Raw women’s championship herself.
......Did @Zelina_VegaWWE just SLAP the #WWERaw #WomensChampion @WWEAsuka?!?!?
