Sasha Banks is out selling injuries from her attack at the hands of Bayley, which means that feud is going to have to wait a couple weeks to get going proper. In the meantime, WWE is promoting a pay-per-view, Clash of Champions, where every title must be defended.
That means Bayley needed an opponent for the SmackDown women’s championship she’s still in possession of.
WWE went ahead and booked a Fatal 4-Way pitting Alexa Bliss (who left early) vs. Tamina Snuka (who was never going to win here) vs. Lacey Evans (who would have been an option earlier this year, but not now) vs. Nikki Cross (who won the match, because she’s about as reliable as it gets and WWE seems to believe in her in situations like these).
So it’s on: Bayley vs. Cross — ignore all the times Cross lost to her already in recent months, I guess — for the SmackDown women’s championship at Clash of Champions on Sept. 27, 2020, in Orlando, Florida.
Here’s the updated match card:
- Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton (WWE championship)
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso (Universal championship)
- Bayley (c) vs. Nikki Cross (SmackDown women’s championship
