It was a pleasant surprise when Wade Barrett made his return to WWE on the commentary desk in NXT just last week. It was originally set to be a one-time thing, or at least that’s what reports noted at the time, but he later revealed he would be back for Super Tuesday this week.
Eagle-eyed observers then noticed he was quietly moved to the current “Superstars” section on WWE.com with an updated bio that seemed to reflect he could be sticking around as a commentator on the black-and-gold brand moving forward.
That’s why it’s no surprise reports are now coming out from PW Insider that Barrett is currently in negotiations with WWE for a full-time return to the company.
Per the report, he was brought in for commentary not necessarily as a one-time thing but rather a feeling out process. There’s apparently been interest in this dating back to early this year, and he could end up working with NXT or NXT UK.
It’s worth noting that if he does sign a contract, it will be as an announcer instead of in-ring performer.
Either way, good news for Barrett and fans alike.
