The match
Bray Wyatt defends the Universal championship in a triple threat match against Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns in the main event of tonight’s (Sun., Aug. 30, 2020) WWE Payback pay-per-view (PPV) from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
The story
After chasing Braun Strowman around for a number of months, both failing to defeat him in a straight up match at Money in the Bank and then attempting to drown him in a swamp — that ultimately just led to “The Monster Among Men” becoming just “The Monster” — Bray Wyatt finally defeated Strowman to win the Universal championship at SummerSlam just this past weekend.
The celebration was short lived.
Roman Reigns made his return after nearly five months away and put the boots not just to Wyatt but Strowman as well. Was he a good guy? A bad guy?
Or just THE guy (I’m so sorry)?
The next week, Reigns was clearly pissed off about the championship he never lost hanging on someone else’s shoulders, and he promised he would be coming for it, provided WWE altered some language in the match contract. Then he revealed he has aligned himself with Paul Heyman, of all people.
So Wyatt is champion but that may be short lived and we don’t know if he’s the good or bad guy in all this (despite the fact that he’s a literal monster who not long ago was attacking a woman he believed Strowman held dear), Strowman is just sort of there now and seems to be the bad guy in all this despite fighting with the monster of WWE, and Reigns going after them both would seem like the babyface thing to do but he was sure acting like a heel and has aligned himself with a heel manager.
Wonder where this is headed?
Follow along tonight to find out right here.
