Singles match
Keith Lee vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton is a sore loser. He was defeated in a WWE championship match at SummerSlam 2020 when Drew McIntyre held him down to the mat with a backslide. Randy never saw it coming.
The next night on Raw, McIntyre let his guard down early in the show, and Orton made him pay for it by attacking him from behind and punting him in the head.
Orton came down to the ring to explain his actions, and he was interrupted by the Raw debut of former NXT champion, Keith Lee:
Lee offered Orton the opportunity to bask in his glory. He was stepping up on behalf of Drew McIntyre, his friend, to challenge Orton to a singles match on Raw. When they did throw down later in the episode, the match ended in disqualification once Drew ran down to the ring to go after Randy.
Things did not end well for the champ. Orton ambushed him backstage a few minutes later and punted him again, potentially fracturing Drew’s skull.
Lee watched his friend get loaded into an ambulance and driven away; he vowed to get revenge on the Viper at Payback.
For fans of Lee, there were a few concerns with the way he debuted on Raw, that make it look like his limits are already being tested by Vince McMahon. First and foremost, his music and ring gear from NXT were changed for the worse on Monday. Second, he is essentially playing the role of Drew McIntyre’s sidekick in this story. Sidekicks don’t usually win against the arch-rival (Orton) of the hero (McIntyre).
Can Drew really make a miraculous recovery in less than a week from a potentially fractured skull in order to screw Orton over at Payback, or will Lee have to defeat the 13-time world champion all on his own?
