Even with injury, Karrion Kross casts a shadow over NXT

The news that Karrion Kross would have to relinquish the NXT championship he’d won just days before at TakeOver: XXX due to a separated shoulder opened the WWE brand’s Aug, 26 episode. It cast a shadow over much of the two hours that followed as Triple H and team figured how to deal with the loss of a man they’d spent the last six months building up in unprecedented fashion.

It figures the news also dominates Matt Camp’s NXT Injury Report video for the week.

A recap of Kross vacating the title leads off. The only other person on the list is Jake Atlas, and he’s here because NXT had to heat Tommaso Ciampa up in a hurry for next Tuesday’s 4Way Iron Man match to crown a new champ. Getting slingshotted into the ring frame and DDT-ed off a gurney sent Atlas to the dreaded “local medical facility.” But after getting squashed by Kross and being gone for two months, we all remember why the Blackheart is a threat as he heads into action against Finn Bálor, Adam Cole & Johnny Gargano on Sept. 1.

Here’s Camp’s latest, and a list of what it covers:

  • Karrion Kross - separated shoulder; not cleared
  • Jake Atlas - suffered extensive injuries; not cleared
