WWE NXT TakeOver: XXX results - Pat McAfee proves he belongs, does the job for Adam Cole

NXT General Manager William Regal told Pat McAfee he’d have to leave his boys in the back for his match with Adam Cole at TakeOver: XXX. But after a pre-match promo proclaiming his the greatest leg in the history of legs, the former NFL All-Pro rolled out with his team in “Cole Sucks” shirts.

Cole didn’t his Undisputed ERA mates, however, and referee Drake Wuertz got the footballers off the apron. Things started as a standard wrestling match, with each man narrowly avoiding big kicks from the other. McAfee bailed to regroup with his posse, and when the foursome taunted the Panama City Playboy, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish arrived. Security ran out to separate them, which set Pat up for a huge swanton off the top to flatten everyone!

McAfee worked the heat in the ring, even squatting Cole three times from slamming him down and getting a two count. After a big drop kick, the newcomer was in the driver’s seat. But a slap after more trash talk inspired the longest reigning NXT champ in history to fire back with a slap of his own. It was the wrestler’s time to work over the sports talk personality, but McAfee surprised by kicking out of big moves and evading a Last Shot knee.

The former Indianapolis Colt’s biggest moments came from a battle up top. McAfee flipped backwards when shoved and landed on his feet, then immediately leapt back up top for a superplex!

From there he set Cole up for a punt on the apron, but the ERA’s leader moved and Pat punted the steps. Cole followed with a Figure 4, but McAfee wouldn’t tap, and made it to the bottom rope. He baited Cole into a frenzy, and when Wuertz pulled him away, McAfee landed a low blow. He connected clean with a punt moments later, but Cole kicked out!

The jorts-wearing newlywed climbed up top and leapt with a shout of “McAfee BAY BAY!” But he leapt right into a superkick. He considered going for the Last Shot, but decided on a Panama City Sunrise.

McAfee impressed. Perhaps most of all by doing the job for Adam Cole.
