This morning, WWE announced who will greet us on our first official visit to ThunderDome. It’s a no brainer...
BREAKING: @VinceMcMahon will kick off Friday Night #SmackDown LIVE TONIGHT from the #WWEThunderDome at 8/7c on @FOXTV!
— WWE (@WWE) August 21, 2020
Vince McMahon told his investors and business partners that the flagging ratings for Raw and SmackDown were due to the lack of energy on shows from the WWE Performance Center. The move to Orlando’s Amway Center, and the hundreds of thousands of dollars being invested in production to create the interactive fan experience they’re calling ThunderDome, is the Chairman & CEO’s solution to that problem.
Even if he himself dislikes the term, for about the last quarter century, Vince has also been THE person the world thinks of when they think “pro wrestling.” He’s gonna be the man to introduce us to what he hopes is the concept that helps infuse some life into it until arenas can be packed with people again.
Is that all he’ll be doing? His son Shane is a character on Monday nights, and the McMahons historically have been good for at least a short term ratings boost. Could we see the start of a Mr. McMahon angle tonight?
Join us in our live blog at 8 p.m. Eastern when he kicks off the show and we’ll find out together!
