After the Aug. 19 episode of NXT, we now have a better idea of what the card for Saturday’s TakeOver: XXX event on WWE Network will look like. They still haven’t added the customary fifth match to the main broadcast, but they finalized the competitors for a match on that portion of the show and added a pre-show bout.
That latter match (not to be confused with the ladder match, nyuk nyuk nyuk) will be a Triple Threat tag to determine the next challengers for champions Imperium. Breezango, Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan, and the Legado Del Fantasma team of Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde will compete to see who gets the next shot at Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel. The champs do not have a match booked on tonight’s show.
Along with their Cruiserweight titleholding leader Santos Escobar, Wilde & Mendoza defeated Tyler Breeze, Fandango & Isaiah “Swerve” Scott on tonight’s show. Breezango won another #1 contenders Triple Threat Lorcan & Burch were also involved in a few months ago, but obviously came up short against Imperium.
The North American title Ladder Match field was also rounded out when Johnny Gargano & Velveteen Dream won Second Chance Qualifying matches on Wednesday’s show.
Here’s the updated card:
- Karrion Kross vs. Keith Lee (c) for the NXT championship
- Io Shirai (c) vs. Dakota Kai for the NXT Women’s title
- Adam Cole vs. Pat McAfee
- Johnny Gargano, Velveteen Dream, Damian Priest, Cameron Grimes & Bronson Reed in a Ladder Match for the North American championship
- Breezango vs. Legado del Fantasma vs. Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan in a #1 contenders match (Pre-Show)
Triple H and team have a few options if they opt to add another match to the main card. A Timothy Thatcher attack cost Finn Bálor in the main event tonight, extending an issue that started in their Triple Threat with Dexter Lumis a few weeks back. Swerve & Santos are on a collision course over the Cruiserweight strap, and things escalated between Rhea Ripley & Mercedes Martinez tonight when The Nightmare powerbombed Robert Stone’s client onto the concrete floor. Plus, Tegan Nox is looking to settle her issues with Candice LeRae over a glass of wine, and I doubt that will go well.
Let us know what you think of the card as it stands, and what if anything they should add to the line-up for Sat., Aug. 22, in the comments below.
