The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the SummerSlam show set to take place on Sun., Aug. 23, 2020. The show was originally to be held in Boston but the coronavirus pandemic has forced the company to change locations. The show is reported to take place at the Amway Center.
We’re just a week away from showtime and here’s what is on for the show:
- Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton (WWE championship)
Orton beat down enough legends that he decided it would make sense to go ahead and go after the champion of the promotion. They’ve been doing some worked shooting in promos.
- Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt (Universal championship)
Wyatt used Alexa Bliss to get to Strowman in the Swamp Fight. Now, the tables have been turned. This time, at least, the title is on the line.
- The Street Profits (c) vs. Andrade & Angel Garza (Raw tag team championship)
Andrade & Garza won a triple threat match, then deployed Zelina Vega to poison Montez Ford. She’s been battling Bianca Belair over that while the titles have taken a bit of a backseat.
- Apollo Crews (c) vs. MVP (United States championship)
They had a match for the title on Raw after not getting to have one at Extreme Rules, and Crews solidified his status as champion. MVP wanted an immediate rematch and got one.
- Seth Rollins vs. Dominik Mysterio (Street Fight)
Dominik wasn’t going to let someone take his dad’s eye out, so he’s here to fight Rollins. Just this weekend, WWE made it a Street Fight, which frees up Rey Mysterio to get involved.
- Bayley (c) vs. Asuka (SmackDown women’s championship)
A Triple Brand Battle Royal was held to determine who would wrestle Bayley for her title, and Asuka, as a surprise entrant, last eliminated Shayna Baszler to win it.
- Sasha Banks (c) vs. Asuka (Raw women’s championship)
Banks told Asuka she could have a shot at the title if she beat Bayley on Raw, which she did.
- Sonya Deville vs. Mandy Rose (Hair vs. Hair)
Deville has been out for blood for a while, and her main talking point is that Rose is all looks, no substance. So, naturally, she took some scissors to her hair to take away the looks part. It didn’t work, of course, but did set up Mandy to get pissed off enough to challenge her to a Hair vs. Hair match.
That’s the card right now.
Matt Riddle vs. King Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro vs. Lucha House Party for the SmackDown tag team championship has been teased and are prime candidates for a Kickoff match.
