Finn Bálor dealing with a (possibly kayfabe) calf muscle tear

Matt Camp’s weekly NXT Injury Report video is usually storyline, but it has been used in the past to cover for or announce legitimate issues.

The edition released after the July 29 episode of the black-and-gold brand presents an interesting case. Former NXT & Universal champion Finn Bálor didn’t win the main event Triple Threat, but he was protected by virtue of not being the man to lose the match (Timothy Thatcher passed out in Dexter Lumis’ Silence finisher, sending Lumis through to TakeOver: XXX’s North American title ladder match).

Turns out that wasn’t the only way, though. Camp reports Bálor entered the match with an torn calf muscle, and was only cleared moments before the bell. Thatcher worked on Finn’s leg during the match, and may have re-aggravated the injury.

This was The Prinxe’s first bout since a June 24 Triple Threat with Keith Lee and Johnny Gargano, so he may have nursing an injury. Or this could just be to keep him strong despite his second straight high-profile loss (Lee pinned Bálor in the match last month).

To help you ponder that, check out this week’s video and our list of what was covered. And please remember not to interrupt an angry Keith Lee...

  • Cameron Grimes - jaw contusion
  • Finn Bálor - calf muscle tear sustained in training; may have re-aggravated during match
  • Dexter Lumis - osteochondral lesion of the talus; going in for further testing
