Extreme Rules gave us the greatest photo in pro wrestling history

When word got around that WWE was really planning on doing an Eye for an Eye match that would only end when one wrestler extracted the other’s eye, it seemed like the kind of ridiculous nonsense that would never make air. But this is WWE, and not only did it make air, with Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules, but they played it straight.

It resulted in the greatest photo in history:

WWE Network (via WWE on BT Sport)

Rey Mysterio holding a fake eye against his head. That’s what made Seth Rollins “vomit.”

In a post-match update, WWE added to the comedy by reporting Mysterio was transported to a “local medical facility.” Here’s the rest:

... to be treated for a potential globe luxation. Medical experts were optimistic that if the optic nerve is not severed and there is not too much strain on the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of the head, there’s a chance Mysterio can maintain his vision.

Fancy medical terms but also WWE making sure to leave the out that well, actually, he’s not going to lose the eye and he’ll be able to see just fine when he heals up from all this.

We’ll always have that photo.
