When Edge returned to WWE to do some actual wrestling after he was, to the shock of everyone, cleared by doctors coming off what was thought to be a career ending neck injury, it always made sense to pair him with someone like Randy Orton. After all, you get the big star back for a while, you put him in a program with another one of your top stars you can tell a good story with and let them go.
But while he’s been happy with that, he’s just as eager to get to work putting over the next crop of stars.
As he told it to Comicbook.com:
“It’s super exciting. One of the main reasons I wanted to come back is really to try and help a new generation of guys who I can get in there with and have some fun with and hopefully teach too. I was really, really fortunate that I was able to get in with the Ric Flairs and the Shawn Michaels and the Undertakers and the Jerry Lawler and the Terry Funks and the Dory Funks and the Tom Prichards. All of these names that helped me, Bad News Brown, Rick Martel, they all helped me. It was their experience that helped me. So when I look at it and I look at this whole new crop of talent, I just think ‘hey, maybe I can help some of these guys.’ That’s super exciting.”
As for actual names, he rattled off the likes of Finn Balor, Damien Priest, Keith Lee, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Aleister Black, Andrade, Angel Garza, The Viking Raiders, Ricochet, and Cedric Alexander. Those qualify as the next generation types but he’s also excited to work with names like AJ Styles and Roman Reigns.
Really, this just showcases how much reason there is to be excited about another run for Edge in WWE, assuming he can stay healthy. There are so many intriguing stories to be told here, whether he’s working with the next crop of stars or sticking around the main event with established headliners.
