We knew there would be big changes to the June 26 SmackDown based on this week’s news that multiple performers, producers, and other employees at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando have tested positive for COVID-19. With taping set to take place this afternoon, we’re getting reports regarding the number and scope of those changes.
PWInsider says the Undertaker tribute, which was added yesterday and will include a re-airing of WrestleMania 36’s Boneyard Match, will take up roughly half the show.
Appearances by Jeff Hardy and Matt Riddle were also a part of the last plans Insider heard about.
It seems that most of what WWE announced last week is off the show. The official preview on WWE.com now only lists the Taker tribute. There’s no mention of the AJ Styles vs. Drew Gulak Intercontinental title match (Styles shared the ring with Renee Young last week; Young is confirmed to have COVID), or Braun Strowman reacting to Bray Wyatt’s most recent edition of Firefly Fun House. While Insider says to expect Hardy, Sheamus’ “toast” to the Charismatic Enigma is no longer being promoted.
We’ll see what we get... other than a lot of video of the Dead Man.
