Rob Gronkowski is done with WWE

He’s in the WWE record books, but Rob Gronkowski is no longer under WWE contract.

Wrestling Inc reported, and Wrestling Observer confirmed, that Gronk has exercised a release clause in the deal he signed with Vince McMahon’s company earlier this year. A condition of the clause is said to be that he can’t do anything with any other wrestling company for “a set period of time”.

There were plans for the NFL All-Pro to wrestle at SummerSlam, but those are now out the window.

Hosting WrestleMania 36 was the highlight of Gronk’s brief WWE run. It was there that he won the 24/7 championship. After holding it longer than anyone ever has (by virtue of not making any more appearances), he dropped it back to R-Truth during a remote segment that aired on Raw last night.

While under contract, Gronkowski came out of football retirement when his NFL rights were traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that move, not many people were expecting him to take any wrestling bumps.

Now he clearly won’t, since he’s no longer signed to a wrestling company.
